CharlesDarwin (1334), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 25, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a half-translucent mid-sienna brown, with an off-white rim. Glowing. Aroma is a sustained muddled malt, with real rich bready, flowery yeast notes rising through. Flavor is rich and well done. There’s good expected wheat phenols and oils up front, but then it glides on ice into a sweet, nutty mild chocolate, banana, and almond meat backend. This kisses off with a chewy, resin blast of Noble hops. It’s got a great three part figure. Complex, detailed and delicious. One can detect a sense of this being fermented colder, to keep the yeast from overpowering the beer and I like it, because this man knows how to malt and it really comes out in the beer. Finishes crisp and dry. No overwhelming residual sweetness or chemical yeast products. Very nice.
