Brown color with a small head. Barely-there malty nose. Nutty and chalky flavor. Moderately sweet.

On tap at the library. It’s a surprisingly nice brown. Smooth and creamy but with a bit more hop in the finish than standard browns.

Tasted as part of a sampler at the Library in Houghton after 4 days and nights on a sailboat before being pounded off Lake Superior. This beer had a perfect sweetness for this style, a nice sweet nut aroma and just the perfect hoppy bitter finish. I typically don’t like brown ales but this was surprisingly good.

Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JUL 3, 2009
On draught at the brewery/brewpub in downtown Houghton, Northern Michigan. Pours a clear dark copper colored brewed with an average off-white head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing. Aroma is very faint with some caramel malt, a touch of flowery hops and some roasted nuts. Taste is light bodied, low carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, some roasted nuts, and a touch of flowery hops. Finish is slightly watery with a hint of bitterness that quickly disappears.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark, tannicy brown colored pour with a well sustaining layer of creamy ivory head. Aromas of nutty toast and some mild oak blend nicely with some dark caramel notes. Light to medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel. Flavors of roasted peanut skins, biscuit, and caramel compose the dark malt palate. Dry, clean, subtly hoppy finish to this refreshing brew.

5 oz draught sample at the brewpub, late July 2006. Very dark, caramel-walnut hued body with a lasting thick creamy tan head....pleasant nutty-oily, brown-sugar tinged aroma....sweet, nutty, slightly acrid flavor with some obvious English hops felt at the finish...low carbonation combined with fairly full body do create a slightly sticky mouthfeel but overall this is pretty nice.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 Clear deep sienna color, with diminished heard. Decent ether profile in aroma. Tastes like sheep barn at a county fair, with really strong oats. Interesting, but I don’t quite know what to make of it. Musty finish. Strong oak palate. Smooth finish. Burnt malt smack.
