COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made with Cascade, Columbus, Nugget and Chinook hops we grew on the farm. This is a beer unique to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Very limited release. Double dry hopped. This is the beer we’ve been wanting to make since we began planning the brewery. Gentleman Farmer is our attempt to add terroir (the taste of place) to beer.

Bottle from a friend. Poured a deep copper color with a moderate, bubbly off-white head that slowly faded to a ring. Some brighter citric fruits (lemon) paired with a softer orange sweetness imparted by the hops, light caramel, moderate earthiness, and some light resin on the nose. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with soft touches of caramel lead into a delicate orange fruitiness paired with a soft earthiness followed moderately bitter, dry hoppiness with some light resin, a hint of pine, and some biting lemon fruitiness. Low carbonation, light, delicate mouth feel capped by a moderate dryness, inviting you to keep drinking despite the ABV. Overall, it differs from a lot of the typical APA’s available today, leaning towards more of a balance between flavors rather than just outright hops.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Total Wine - Manassas, 10/12/14, Batch #1

Aroma: The nose is sugary malt, a good amount of caramel, buttery notes, and some light hops
Appearance: It pours a cloudy dark orange color with a thick, frothy beige head and decent lace
Flavor: The tropical fruit and peach come through more here, with some sweet malts and spice
Palate: Medium bodied, has a decent mouthfeel, slightly sticky, and a bit too much carbonation
Overall Impression: Goochland in the house! I was excited to see this in the store, because it is really good to see that these guys are already distributing up to NOVA. I was pretty impressed when I visited the brewery back in the spring. There is definitely something right going on here, and I definitely think these guys should keep at it (not that they need me to tell them that), even if this wasn’t my favorite of their beers. I’m still definitely a fan of this brewery overall, and I would happily try the next batch of this beer to see if it changes my opinion.

Bottle. Much darker than I anticipated, pretty much brown. The head is nice and whipped. The aroma hints more at a rich caramel/sugary base than any hop character. On the palate, the beer is moderately well bodied, and the flavors brings a bit a firm malt base and then a sharp tangy tingle of the hop on top. Decent. (#5558, 6/17/2014)

Dark amber pour with a white head. Aroma of floral and resinous hops. Flavor is floral hops at first but balanced with some malt character. Not quite as hoppy as I was expecting. Nicely balanced.

From bomber. Pours an opaque copper. Very mild aroma. Minor hops, with a touch of bitterness. Essentially, nothing special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - 750mL crowned. Batch 1. Amber pour with a short white head. Aroma is floral and earthy with soft citrus, toasted malt and caramel notes. Bigger citrus notes, light tropical fruit notes, floral hops, earthy hops, sweet malt, grains, toasted bread, caramel and faint pine. Body is medium with a dense, creamy carbonation. Ends with more citrus, tropical fruit notes, light pine, caramel, dark bread, peach tea, floral hops and earthy notes.

750ml bottle, perhaps a little underfilled, but fine enough. Consumed the entire bottle. Poured a slightly opaque ruby amber color with a small, off-white head. Aroma was earthy hops, almost medicinal (not in a bad way). Some spice, earthy, floral and herbal. Flavor was nice hop character. Pretty darn drinkable. I liked this one a lot.

1/3/2014. 750 ml. bottle. Pours hazy amber with a tiny white head. Malty and caramel aromas. Bubblegum, nutty flavors with earthy tones. Hoppy finish. Interesting combination of flavors.
