The Three Chopt name comes from a nearby colonial era trail marked by three hatchet marks on a tree. LCCBís Tripel is a non-stopped hopped version of a European classic. We use American grown sterling and New Zealand Grown Motueka Hops that help impart a lemon and lime characteristic with a hint of tropical fruit. Multiple hop additions throughout the boil create a textured, full flavor.

750 ml into a tulip, huge thanks to Max! Pours a clear dark amber with a few fingers of wispy white foam. Nose is wheat, light floral hops, yeast esters of banana and clove. Almost smells a bit sour/tangy. Similar taste, fruity with a solid black pepper back bone with a little caramel. Lingering coriander and some booze warmth. Finishes crackery and dry, refreshing and delicious. Overall a solid tripel, a style that I rarely drink.

Bottle shared by Dr Silverworm via Jay. Poured hazy golden color with an average frothy white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex spice, citrus and hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a good beer that surpassed my expectations.

750ml bottle, thanks to Jay A. Shared with local raters. Bigger toasty sweet sort of belgian pilsnery burn caramel malt. A distinct flavor that reminds me of older belgians. Iím not a fan of it in particular. Moderate bitter, light to moderate sweet. Hint of alcohol warmth. Heavy golden orange color. Thin off-white head. Some bits of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Light slick body. Light drying in the finish. Alright belgian tripel overall, but I canít get past that burnt sugar belgian flavor. Not sure if itís the malt or stale hops, but itís obnoxious in the taste for me. Good bigger bitterness to this, though.

750 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have floral notes, tropical fruit, candied fruit, yeast, biscuity malt, soapy mouthfeel goes with the floral character of the beer, mild bitterness.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks good for the style; a hazy gold with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast and fruity hops with some mild sweetness and a touch of biscuit. Tastes like it smells with a solid medium-bodied mouthfeel. One of the better Tripels Iíve had in awhile.

From a 75 cl bottle shared at home on Fatherís Day. Pours a cloudy gold with a thick off white head. Bubblegum aroma. Flavors of banana, white pepper, and cardamom with hints of citrus. Crisp, clean finish. Tasty.

Location: Sampled at TapNY, 4/26/14

Aroma: The nose is fruity and sweet, with Belgian yeast, spice, and some herbal hop notes
Appearance: It pours a murky orange color with a small white head and streaky lace
Flavor: The taste is medium-plus sweet, with some spice, and a later herbal hop
Palate: The body is medium, it has a bit of stickiness, and a long, slightly spicy finish
Overall Impression: This is another name that brings back some nice memories for me. I always enjoyed the story of the origin of Thee Chopt Road. As for the beer, this one is a solid tripel. From the description I was thinking maybe it would be a little drier, but it is still a pretty sweet beer.

Bottle. Hazy, mostly opaque orange-golden color ... the thin head whispers away into the night fairly fast. This drinks with a musty, farmhouse character ... a bit of an acidic tropical fruity finish ties it off. Definitely a bit of an herbal hop sting hovers, too. Interesting, befitting of a "farm brewery." (#5479, 4/2/2014)
