3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 27, 2011 330ml bottle (Belgianshop) BB:Mar08
Dark brown, small tan head. Milky sweet and slightly sour aroma. Dark berries too. Soft carbonation. Taste also quite creamy, and slightly burnt, with a rich dark caramel component. Pretty full bodied, but very mellow. Hides the 6.5% very well. Looking forward to having this again.
Rerate: BB2008/03, drunk 2011/07 (6:2:7:3:13=3.1)
Poured like diarrhea. Very toffee-ey. A bit thinner than before. A bit more of a bitter bite as the thinness lets the hops show a bit more. As this is well past its BB, I’ll not drop the rating.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Reddish brwn with a nice beige head. Not much to offer in the aroma department. Sweet malt, caramel, molasses, yeast - all the expected stuff you’d usually find in a dubbel. Also a little anethole. Nothing bad about it; it’s just too vague and lacks character. Flavour is exactly the same, but I’ll give it a notch up from aroma because I happen to enjoy sweet malty beverages once in a while.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark brown with a red hue and a nice head. The aroma is malty and hoppy and the flavour is sweetish with notes of malt, caramel, hops and a nice bitterness. It’s a bit thin and ordinary. 1702

Bottled. Clear amber with a small but lasting white foam. Nuts, caramel and weak notes of estery fruit. Clean flavour of caramel, nuts and dried fruit. Light-bodied for the style. Sugary finsih with notes of caramel. Decent but felt a bit stale and indistrual.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep amber with a thin off white head. Nose of malt, berries and prunes. Tastes of sweet earthy malts, dark fruits, nuts, berries and candy sugar with a bitter bite in the end. Flavour is actually quite good but the thin palate is a let down.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear amber/brown with a creamy off white head. Malty aroma - caramel, dark fruits & berries. Lovely. Smooth carbonation - Ok filling body. Good lacings. Taste is light sweet - toffee, metallic/earthy & brown sugar. Easy drinkable & also enjoyable but a bit too anonymous in a way! Also too sweet - no signs of bitter hops!
