Ale brewed with cherries with natural flavor added. Contains barley malt. Wrap label: "Liefmans Cuvée - Brut is brewed only once a year, in July. After brewing freshly harvested and carefully selected cherries are blended in and the beer is cellared at the brewery. After a slow maturation of 18 months to 3 years different vintages are carefully tasted and blended to create the final result: a complex deep-red ale with refreshing balanced tart-sweet taste, strong cherry notes and sparkling carbonation."

750 ml 2006 vintage, corked and caged. Pours a murky brown (seems to suffer from chill haze, as it decreases as it warms) which when held up to light, reveals a warm cherry glow. Almost no head other than a thin skin, but chunky lacing appears when it warms. Nose is typical of the style, funky and vinous, with enough candy sweetness to cut through the oaky sourness. On the palate the beer really shines, not too full but rich and smooth, starting with an initial tart burst that rides over a wooden hoppiness before gently cresting towards a lovely slightly biscuity caramel malt finish, ending up tasting just like those little cherry-cola gummies. A slight menthol aftertaste shows up, but is delicate enough not to be distracting. Delicious, and one of the better balanced krieks I’ve tried.

0.75 l bottle from airport shop in Brussels. Very deep and dark red colour with pink head. At first you will taste cherries but after you have swallowed your throat will feel something sour. Yes, the Flemish sour ale comes through the sweetness. To call this cuvee sweet and sour would describe the taste better than just plain brut. You won’t have these kind of flavours in sparkling wines.

Pours reddish brown. Nice sweet/sour complement going on with a dry tart finish. Slight flavor of cherry and a distinct cola-like flavor. Very nice.

On key draught from The Alex in Derby. Dark redish colour. Very sweet & quite fizzy. Doesn’t taste as strong as it’s 6% Really fruity but a bit to sugary for me

You’d expect a red colored beer, but a red-brown color pours out of the bottle. It has a very sour aroma, which smells like cherry’s combined with red wine. The taste however is sweet-sour, en this will go on in a gentle, sweet aftertaste.

I had this in Belgum and just last weekend in St. Paul. Both times were fun and worth remembering, so I reached for the Kriek. So smoooth and cherrieful, without being too sweet.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2010 Botlle, 37,5 cl. Beatifull deep red beer with a little light pink head. Smells like cherries, mixed with some sourness. Natural aroma anyway. Taste is as good as it’s simple: natural sour cherries mixed with some sourness, and some tannines included. With a very good pallet as a result! Less is more, certainly with this beer. Update 03/07: on tap @ Poatersgat the taste started sweet before the dry taste and the tannines came to the foreground. I didn’t realize I rated this beer already, but my opinion in score stays the same: less is more, and there has been chosen for a good mix in the pallet.

Burgandy colour with medium head. Aroma is sweet with heavy cherry, pleasant but with little complexity. Big cherry flavour immediately but the dry finish should be more assertive to make this a bit more accomplished. Still fairly decent.
