3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thorpe429 (4844) - , Illinois, USA - APR 24, 2011On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso in Old Town. Served in a tulip.
Pours an enticing dark crimson with a bit of a purplish tint. Thin ligh tan head forms up and persists through. A bit of spotty lacing forms on the walls of the skinny tulip. Good collar throughout, along with some persistent foam. The nose draws me in at first with mild, creamy oak along with a nice acetic bite which follows up on the woody notes. Beneath the acid lies a mixture of sour cherries and a few other darks fruits, most notably red plum. Smooth and mellow, the acid, fruit, and wood all play well together.
The flavor is mildly puckering and tannic from the start. Berries blossom more and more as it warms. Plum and light oxidized malt character lingers in the background. Acetic acid takes the reigns here. Good smooth and creamy body that coats the palate and lingers after a fairly-full, yet still acidic, finish. All around, an extremely well crafted brew that I’ll be looking for a few bottles of.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 gEUS (587) - Linden, BELGIUM - MAY 20, 2013
This rating is for the a mid 90s version, when all was well (aka not taken over by Duvel Moortgat). Bottel at Chez Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles, given by Jean from a stash of old bottles - thanks! This stash was a 12 bottle box that actually was stored on its side and about 1/3 to 2/3 of the bottle was gone. The muzelet was almost totally eaten by the rust but the cork was totally intact. For the sake of the tasting exercise, we opened it. To our surprise, there was still even carbonation escaping (even with the little pop while uncorcking) - lovely! Aroma was incredibly fruity for its age - cherries and strawberries and a hint of madeira. Taste was like a fruity soft drink, nice sour and a bit sweet, but still a fruit explosion! An almost perfect beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Frothmeister (385) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 18, 2013
750ml bottle. I’m a sucker for Belgian fruit beers, and well, this is the best I have had. I will preface this review with, "I love it!" Pours a hazy garnet colour with a short lived rosy beige head. The nose is cherry pie filling, a light floral note, faint earthiness, and tart candies. The taste is full on "Cherry Blasters" candy. Seriously. Tartness, sweetness, sour cherry with a little citrus in the finish. This is a well balanced dessert beer, and I love it. I love it so much. Jesus this is good!

Head: minuscule, poor retention. Colour: ruby, slightly hazy.
Aroma: balanced sour and sweet, lots of cherry, some sharp yeast too. Taste is the same. The finish is sour and sweet.

Pours a brown/red with pinkish head and little lacing. Aroma of light cherries, vinous notes, and light caramel. Taste has lots of sweet cherries, vinous notes, light acetic sourness, little caramel. Medium body and medium to low carbonation. good and refreshing.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 mathieuc (281) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 9, 2013
Pours brown with a little red hue. The small head that tops it is not really persistent but leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is of fresh cherries with quite a bit of sweet-sour impressions. First sip you’d expect a sour beer but it is only faintly sour but not too sweet either, balanced really. Flavors of candy sugar, cherries of course and just the tinyest touch of grain. Mouthfeel is good with an average carbonation level. A well executed fruit beer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 R2k2 (93) - NETHERLANDS - APR 28, 2013
You’d expect a red colored beer, but a red-brown color pours out of the bottle. It has a very sour aroma, which smells like cherry’s combined with red wine. The taste however is sweet-sour, en this will go on in a gentle, sweet aftertaste.
