LCBO bottle purchase- Pours deep raspberry red. Head is initially two fingers of tiny bubbles, but is reduced to a light white frosting. Pleasantly raspberry-ish nose (freshly squeezed juice) with some mild floral and spicy notes (nutmeg). Taste is tart and sweet raspberries, with the sweetness being first and foremost, and the sour, tart berry flavours coming through in the finish. There are some mild yeasty and spicy flavours, but this beer is mainly about the fresh raspberries. I was hoping for a little more complexity, but I’ll lay a few down and see what a couple years will do.

Tasted in Toronto. Obtained from LCBO as part of the summer series. Tasted in dimple mug. Colour is slightly cloudy reddish, deep dark and a bit red. Head is very thin but sustained and white. Aroma has some spice and is dominated by sweet raspberry. Somewhat artificially sweet though. Flavour is very sweet and intense from a raspberry perspective. no questions here this is a flemish sour and here to stay.

This is fantastic. The fresh, leafy berries merge perfectly with the sourish beer base, winding up with an ideal hybrid beer. Balanced and mature. I’m usually put off by fruit beers, but this one works too well to criticize.

Dammit, a bursting bottle - all over my desk, DS:L modem and floor (turned to tile just in time). Pours dark red / brown with a ridiculously large pinksih / tan head. Aroma has pleasant tart fermented raspberry that makes me almost forget about the exposion. There are aspects of earthiness that are in there as well. Medium bodied with lots of fizzy carbonation. Taste has lots of fizz and sweet and sour raspberry. The finish has much of the same. This could be an infected bottle considering the explosion and excessive carbonation. What is here is not very complex, could also be due to infection - an easy to enjoy fruit beer though. Nice beer, but not sure I have what was intended by the brewer. (8/3/7/3/15 - 3.6) <P> Rerate notes: 2005 cork date. Color same as original rating, but the head is light tan with little retention. Taste is more pleasingly sour with some dark cherries not noticed before. Body is smooth at first and then more crisp on the finish. Very nice sour ale.

(375ml bottle at Leon de Belge, Essen/Ruhr, vintage 2005) Hazy, dark reddish colour with a short and diminishing pink foam. Strong fruity and sweet aroma of raspberries, slightly artificial and perfumed with a sourish background. Sweet flavour, light to medium body, moderate carbonation. Sweet raspberry taste with a light sour note and a slightly tart but mainly sweet and fruity, malty finish (13.04.06).

Bottle. Pours reddish\brown with a pink head. Aroma of fermented raspberries and sugary sweetness. Flavor is mostly raspberries, sweet up-front, and has a tart sour finish. Good body, good brew.
