Nice subtle hint of raspberry also slightly tart. Murky brown in color. Nose equally subtle (which is nice).
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 6, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2004 2003 bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, nuts), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with a strong note of fresh raspberries, light note of juniper. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Nice malty brown ale base, with carton-of-fresh-raspberries aroma and a nice sweet/sour balance for a fruit beer. Some tannins would be a nice addition, though, and I’m surprised it has so little.

i rated this beer before, but didn’t comment on it, so here goes. Had this in Europe, and loved it, slightly sweet, bit of sour in there aswell, i thought this kicked arse, bring on Liefmans Goudenband, i really can’t wait to try that stuff.

Except for Kriek (cherries) I dont like fruits being added to beer. This one is too sweet for. Distinctive fruit taste that much come from syrup and no real fruit. Some iron taste as well.

Yeasty, dry and with vibrant, high-definition berry flavors. The body has a bit of the guezey feel and flavor. Very nice.

This is a lovely Belgian ale. Rich, thick red colour (almost like a red wine) and a nice sweet (not sour) taste. One of my favorites!

Sweeter than the Kriek, but the fruit blends seemlessly with the sour brown ale base. The house quaffer.
