Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Mar 27, 2008 Brown with a dense head. Acidity and sour aroma with notes of wood, yeast and cherry. Spicy, yet acidity flavour with some notes of cherry and raspberries. It’s quite complex and a very fine experience.
mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Mar 24, 2008 2006 bottle. deep brown pour with a thin beige head. sourness and a tiny acidic note. thickness is quite thicker than i was expecting. the taste is ok but not as sour as i was expecting. maybe i need a fresher bottle. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 23, 2008 2005 bottle. Ruby red pour with a medium head and lots of yeast particles. Oaky, vinous aroma that mixes red wine with cherries and yeast. Flavor has a nice cherry/tart/vinous thing going on that starts strong but peters out a bit. Nice mouthfeel, but not powerful or sour enough to satisfy a tough sour craving. Still very nice and quite tasty. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 23, 2008 Flaske. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 22, 2008 Bottle of the 2006. Light sourness cuts through the rich caramelly malt. Finish has an almost leathery aspect. Interesting beer. Bullit (1300), Glasgow, Scotland Mar 21, 2008 Amber colour, small white head. Aroma has sour fruits and wood and malts. Flavour is sour fruity, with some vinegar. Complex. Odd beer, have to have more of this to really appreciate it. renffisch (495), london, Greater London, England Mar 18, 2008 37,5 cl bottle @ biergasthof schiffner. Lovely smell of freshly baked bread. Its dark mahogany brown in colour with a brown head. Marvelously balanced between its sweet start and tart finish. Simply gorgeous and fresh. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 18, 2008 Updated: Jan 19, 20091.5L bottle, cork stamped 1999 and the bottle states "The Perfect Provision to Celebrate the Year 2000"
So its at least 8 years old, 3 of these showed up in the liquor store and for 25 bucks, I grabbed one. After drinking this I may have to go get the others.
Currently the oldest beer I have had and I would love to get a new one for the sake of comparison, suffice to say this one was incredible.
After removing the cork created a generous amount of foam in the bottle, I poured into my snifter and had a deep brown ale that let little if any light through the body, a small off white head disappeared quickly despite a lot of carbonation feel in the mouth. The nose is sour berry fruits, cherries, currents, etc.
The taste is a beautiful sour ale that starts slightly sweet and finishes with a nice tartness that accompanies the final alcohol finish. It does hide the 8% extremely well.
A fantastic beer and since it was already aged for me, a great value.
Re-rate: Had one bum 2006 bottle but the other 2006 I had was incredible, everything from the 1999 without the light oxidation, pleasantly tart and sweetly malty. First rate: 7:5:8:3:17 Re-rate: 8:4:9:4:18
