kopher (295), New York, USA Jan 7, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2009pours brown with tons of floaties, rocky beige head.
mostly sour aroma, some spicyness and dark fruit as well. yeasty.
very full flavored, not as sour as expected, it’s like dark chewy fruit.
nice carbonation, a bit thin-bodied though. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2008 750ml brought back from the Bier Tempel in Brussels. Wow, I’m just about at a loss of words as to how to describe this... Little in the way of carbonation, pours brownish-red, needs a hard pour to get a decent head. Sweet and sour in a way I can’t describe. Good yet something in the flavor keeps this from being great. Brown sugar? That and sweetener is what the paper wrapping says on this unlabeled bottle. Definitely worth trying once. ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jan 3, 2008 750 ml green bottle poured a clear brown with a lingering tan head. Aromas of cherry, vinous notes, light cocoa and yeast. Palate was light bodied crisp and lightly tart. Flavors of berry, vinousnesslight cocoa notes and a hint of cork with a crisp lightly tart vinous finish. A very tasty Flemish brown perhaps better than Duchesse. johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA Jan 2, 2008 Updated: Mar 2, 2008Dark brown in color with particulate. Sweet and slightly sour berry taste with a sour finish. What a wonderful taste. A favorite...wow! Miksu (2193), Jyväskylä, Finland Dec 30, 2007 0.375 l bottle. Reddish brown color. Very vinous, berryish juicy and red wine like aroma. Soft, sweet and sour flavor with vinous, berryish, meaty and corky notes. Old time favourite which has nice aged quality and tastes a bit different every time. SSSteve (2047), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 28, 2007 2006. murky brown with lots of large yeast chunks. no head. aroma of cocoa with a touch of sourness. smooth syrupy palate. full bodied. acidic and sour, but not intense. rich and sweet with caramel, fudge, and berries(raspberry, blackberry) with some vinegar. loaded with malts to balance out the acid. a pleasure to drink. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 28, 2007 12.7 oz bottle poured into snifter- poured non transparent and murky dark amber brown. A decent off white head formed and slowly bubbled away. Thick aroma of yeast with dark cherries, and a note of black berries. Hits the mouth with a defined thin body, tongue is awaken by tastes of cherries, various tart berries, sourness. Finish is dry with cherries still lingering in the mouth. If this brewery ever goes under, it’s going to be a shame. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 28, 2007 Sampled both a fresh 2006 and a 1987 vintage via 750ml bombers during Cheesehead YeHA in Brookfield, Wisconsin and shared by 1FastSTi and MrFactor. The 2006 vintage pours a hazy reddish brown brew with a fizzy off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of tart cherries, some yeast funk, a touch of dark grapes with oak. Taste is medium bodied, well-carbonated with flavors of tart blackberries, roasted nuts, caramel and some alcohol. Finish is tart berry sour with a decent yeast funk aftertaste. The 1987 vintage was a pleasant surprise. The aging smoothed out the tartness of the 2006 with a powdery brown sugar character. I could detect some cork flavors but disregarding this it had a smooth and semi-sweet cherry/yeast aftertaste.
