Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 24, 2009 2006 bottle. Thanks to rustychiles for the share on this one. First impression from the aroma on the pour is antiseptic and bandaid...somehow not in an entirely bad way...more intriguing than bad. After that blew off, it was the most distinct cherry aroma that I have ever gotten off of a beer, and it maintained throughout the rest of the tasting. Taste is sweeter than expected; quite a bit of residual sugar here. Some plums, figs, prunes, and candi sugar. There is a decided sourness here, but it is not terribly complex. When I really search for it, it has some depth, but the sweetness really masks a lot here, which is disappointing. Oh well. Still a good sour, though not world class. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 24, 2009 Bottle courtesy of tytoanderso thanks Tyler.
Pours a reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma is cherry, wood, vinegar, sourness, funk. Flavor is sweet, sour, wood, vinegar, cherries. Easy drinking and goes down effortlessly. A very well crafted brew. andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden Apr 11, 2009 Fantastic, smooth brew that manages to be very complex and at the same time refreshing and extremely drinkable for it’s ABV. Doesn’t look very inviting but that is quickly forgotten. Lactic and sour notes of wood, dark sweet fruit and has a nice clean finish that makes you want another sip right away. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 31, 2009 I bought this because I’ve been digging sours and I hear liefmans won’t be around America much longer. The cork had 2006 on it so I guess this has been sitting awhile. Nice, dark brown color with aromas of alcohol and big malts. A little bit of dark funk going on in the smell as well as vinegar. The aroma really improves as the beer warms to room temp (as most do). Whoa, the taste is funky, sour, strong, cereal, heavy cereal maltiness, vinegar again and glue, sour apples, tart in the back. This is sour in a puckery way but much different than the La Roja I had just prior. This is quite potent and much more of a sipper. Overall not my favorite but I’m not that literate when it comes to oud bruins.

Poured garnet with amber highlights, obvious sediment in the beer, and thin off-white head that dissipates very fast. Aroma is a subtle interplay of raisin and chocolate, rooty, woody, sour, vinous, and apple. Flavor is sweet raisin, subtle chocolate with woody and rooty notes, caramel, licorice, barely sour, vinous with a strong woody cask bite. Palate is slightly oily with a sour woody finish and warming body. I would’ve preferred this just a little more sour, but a solid beer with any meal. Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England Mar 28, 2009 330ml corked and wrapped in white paper. I got this at a ghetto ass liquor store in Twickenham(south west London) called Bubbles. This might have been on the shelf for a year or 2...which is a cool bonus with me. This is good shit...It resembles a glass of mud but you get aromas of earth, tart fruit and spices with dark malt . Nice. :Its a complex and eazy to drink beer all in 1. Chocolate covered earth...dusty big malt skylines ..streams of mild cherries ...wild and free, with subtle sweetness. The booze is masked very well. TrefwoordPunk (549), Leiden, Netherlands Mar 26, 2009 Bottle 37,5 cl wrapped in paper, doesn’t state the year it was brewed. Pour a warm ruby red with a small off-white head and an acidic aroma. The flavour is sweet at first, with notes of toffee, artificial sweetener, prunes, salmiac and cherries. After this initial taste the taste gets sour, acidic, wine that has been open for too long and cider. Nice sour beer. zach8270 (2053), Henrietta, New York, USA Mar 7, 2009 (bottle - corked & caged 375 ml - 2006 vintage) Dark ruby red pour with a very thin tan head. Aroma is tart, sour, and earthy with some sweetness and malts coming underneath. Some fruit notes and dark chocolate as well. Flavor is sweet and fruity with hints of sweet cherries, apple cider, and malts that gets overtaken by a mild sour and earthen note. Quite interesting and rather tasty.
