Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium Sep 18, 2006 Taste this many times. Bottle Red-brown clear ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Fruity aroma with notes. The flavor is a touch fruity, but sweet more than anything else. Alcohol is well-disguised. Medium-body. Finishes fruity. One off my favorites from Liefmans. thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Sep 17, 2006 On draught at Brasserie Erasmus, Brugge. Dark rubyred with a big offwhite lacing head. Sour and sweet fruit nose. Flavours are initially sharp and sour, but with a mellowing fruit yoghurt flavours. Good carbonation, nice mouthfeel. One of the great Belgian classics. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Sep 9, 2006 dark hazy brown with red highlights. Aroma is funky with some tart fruit and dark malts. Taste is funky and tart, tart cherry like taste with dark malts, caramel. body is full. reakt (938), Greater London, England Aug 29, 2006 Updated: Nov 1, 2007Bottle from Dovetail. WOW. What a bier!!! Wild card from the menu, disgraced only by the Palm Speciale glass it was served in. Far too many levels to properly describe after only one bottle. This is a rate that needs building upon. Dark caramel in colour with off white, abrubt head. Smell comparable to that of Gouden Carolus Christmas. Worth sticking your nose in, I assure you! Brown sugar and a suprising twist of citrus fruits linger. And then there’s the taste... A wonderful sweet start - Christmas pudding, drenched in Brandy, set ablaze. A nutty interlude is followed with a shocking, but wonderful finish: black cherries. Tart, yet still sweet. Perfectly balanced and unique. Absolutely impeccable. The sort of thing where no justice is served by mere words. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Aug 28, 2006 Pours brown and more or less flat. Smells of sour fruit, vinegar and sugar. Taste is woody with some sour berries and vinegar. thewolf (5635), Kolding, Denmark Aug 27, 2006 Updated: Dec 23, 2007Muddy brown colour with nice thin off-white head.Aroma of fruity bitterness and plums. Taste is mildly sweet with a plummy freshness and ending quite sour.
New rating: [vintage 2005]. Bought @ YNWA, Kolding. A wonderful balance of sweet dark malts and tart yeast. Some fruitiness comes to the fore and caramel and cherries mix stunningly. Wonderful sour. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 26, 2006 Reddish brown pour with plenty of bubbles and floaties. Nice thin head of lace. Aroma is slightly sour, earthy. Nothing exceptional at all. Flavor is very mild. Slightly sour but very blah. LordCrabapple (83), Merseyside, England Aug 9, 2006 This beer surprised me when I first tasted it. I like it very much. Really quite enjoyable. I hope I can try it again soon.
