Pours a hazy cherrywood hue with a dense light tan head. Lots of lace. Smell is spicy. Plum, sour cherries, oaky and vinuous.
Taste is also that fruity sourness. Sweet spice (cinnamon, clove) and sour cherry and berry. Acidic and underpinnings of vinegar. That sounds bad but somehow it works. Some funky brett as t warms. Yeasty. Mouth is thinner than you would expect but lots of flavor. A nice smooth beer and one of my favorites. A bit younger than I like this beer but still complex and tasty. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 4, 2005 Mostly I would have to say this is a like it or hate it beer...but I just don’t know myself. Lots of floaties. Strong old alcohol paint smell but not too bad. Almost no head. Instnat blast of sourness, which disappears to a wide, complex fullness, but slowly grows back to sour/sweet finish. My dad thinks its "rotten" and "spoiled". Certainly a new type of beer and experience for me. Can’t say whether I’ll have it again. But probably will Geiserich (1775), Vienna, Austria Jun 2, 2005 Bottled: Yeasty aroma, very fruity, sugary. Sweet flavor with a nice fruity acid note and hints of candy and cherries. A very pleasant, complex beer. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands May 29, 2005 this is just great. aroma:wood, sherry, cherries. taste: sourish, citrus, woody, sherry, straw-like(barnyard), bit of licorice. finish is more sweet then sour, sticky and long. this is a like it or hate it beer. (the lady didn’t like it, so i got 2 glasses:) Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA May 17, 2005 Appley, fruity malt notes in the aroma--very much like fresh apple cider. Quite sour and lemony tart flavors predominate. Deep brown with a very slight, almost purple look. Little carbonation and a thin head. A very deep flavor profile. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 14, 2005 Updated: Jan 8, 2006(Bottle 75 cl) 1991 vintage at 5,1% ABV: extremely pretty reddish brown beer, typical flavor blend of malty sweetness and sourness. Prickly feel to your tongue. Unique. 190893
1998 vintage: Riva turned the sourness down and the alcohol up. Still a great beer indeed but very different from the original. 7/4/7/3/14=3,5 Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA May 4, 2005 Pours with a reddish-brown body with little head or lacing. It’s slightly sour with a touch of sweetness and a slight flowery note. Medium bodied and smooth with a touch of dryness. Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands May 3, 2005 On draught, ABT-beer of the month. Redbrown dark clear beer with a nice darkyellowish head. Sweet, very fruity aroma. Very nice fruity flavour with some bitter notes (like orangepeel) coming through better at the end. More sweet than sour, could have been a bit more sour, but nevertheless, this was very enjoyable.
