asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Dec 17, 2004 [From bottle at Le Petit Moulinsart] Ruddy dark copper with a thin lacy head. Complex aroma including obvious sourness and a little horseblanket. Fruitiness: strawberry and banana. Felt smooth and creamy with a medium body. Flavour includes some bitterness and orange, but is very complex. Perfect balance of sour, bitter, and warmth. Excellent. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Dec 15, 2004 Having a murky brown color with a slight white head, this has a sour, vinegary aroma. The flavor is of sour cherries, vinegar, and a hint of sweet malts. It’s got a tart finish that leaves my mouth watering. Interesting. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Nov 28, 2004 Updated: Sep 11, 2007Bottled 750 ml. 2003 and 2001. Brown with medium offwhite head. Sour aroma. Sour cherry taste. good body. Good but not as flavorful as Duchese de Bourgogne. Did well with aging. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Nov 24, 2004 330cl bottle at Markt, NYC. dark ruddy brownish hazy color, quick tannish head. blackish sediment. aroma of yeasty cherries and balsalmic vinegar. flavor is slightly tart/sour, with cherry flavor, medium body, light carbonation. malty sweetness is unimposing, a sprinkling of brown sugar. tart finish. cannot detect alcohol. this is how I like a flemish sour. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 18, 2004 Some off notes in the aroma. Beautiful, reddish, orange, yellow. Small head. Caramel notes on the tongue. Alcohol and lively carbonation. I love this beer. If you pay attention, you can taste the sourness at the back of the tongue, but this is not a sour or tart beer, per se. Very nice. Aged hops. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Nov 18, 2004 Alcohol, pine, and sour aroma. The taste is sour at first, but then some malt sweetness sets in. It finsishes tart and there is some bubblegum in there as well. I am suprised that i liked this as well as I did. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Nov 17, 2004 Updated: Nov 23, 2004On tap at Anam Cara’s Belgian Month. Hazy brown color with hints of red. Aroma is yeasty with sawdust and sweet fruits. Taste is sour cherries and yeast. Finishes dry.
re-rate (11/23/04): Vintage 2000 bottle. This aged well. Champagne yeasty. Deeper taste. Complex aromas. Nice. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 10, 2004 Hazy brown body topped with a thin off-white head. Nice fruity aroma with hints of pine and herbs. Taste is very well balanced. Fruityness and sweetness (some brown sugar is added to the beer) prevents sourness to be too harsh. Nice and long sour finish. Very enjoyable Flemish Sour.
