pivo (2535), Germany Nov 10, 2004 Beautiful sour vinegar nose. Clear but dark ruddy-brown and a low frothy head. Great start, but unfortunately this didn’t carry through to the taste and body. Light nutty malt with a mild broad sour finish that drys the sides of the mouth. Overall quite enjoyable. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 7, 2004 Dark brown color, heavy spicy fruity aroma, medium sour taste, medium body, sour finish. NobleSquirrel (1100), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2004 Murky brown with no head. Smelled funky with wood, barnyard, sweat, cherries, vinegar, sugar. Taste was not matching. Too sweet and some cherry taste, coupled with pennies (metal). Not good. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA Nov 2, 2004 Orange-red with slight haze and a nonexistent head. Full bodied aromas of fruits, malts and barnyard smells. Full of flavors-wood, berries, yeast, cheese and some metallic notes. Sour finish, but not distracting. Would make a good dessert beer. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Oct 24, 2004 Cork Date: 2004: Nice brown color, with hints of red. Small frothy head. Rasberry nose but light, also kind of yeasty. Fruity, blackberry taste, medium sweet. Medium, somehow misses textures. I guess it taste great the more it ages. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 23, 2004 375ml corked bottle. Poured red brown, with the expected haze. Tan head was thinner than I had expected. Aroma of white wine and fruit. Malty sweet with notes of sour cherries, raisins. Tart and acidic finish, with some mild alcoholic notes. Very smooth mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Much thanks to Okbeer. frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada Oct 23, 2004 Pours a dark red brown with a tan head that slowly dwindles but never quite leaves. The aromas are magnificent, cherries, wood, malt, some alcohol and a bit of belgian yeastiness. The flavour was terrific as well sour cherries, sweet malty backbone, woodiness throughout with a nice lingering finish. My sample was about a year and a half old. A really nice drink. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 22, 2004 This reddish brown ale poured with almost no head, eliciting a pleasant fruity aroma. The flavor is intensely sour at first, but has a more mellow finish. Goudenband no longer has the subtle sourness of a traditional oud brown ale, but its reincarnation is still well worth drinking.
