mullet (798), Melbourne, Australia Oct 18, 2004 I thought it would be a good idea to do a side-by-side with this and Rodenbach Grand Cru, but I think I made a big mistake. RGC blew this out of the water. Great fluffy head, deep red-brown colour. Some big chunks of yeast at the bottom of the glass. Aroma screams vanilla! Tropical fruit and ice cream, toffee and diacetyl. Seemed a lot more like a regular Belgian (Chimay Bleu or Scotch Silly) than something like Rodenbach. Quite a sweet and malty flavour with chocolate, nutmeg, some alcohol, wood and only the lightest sourness. A bit fizzy too. Really seemed a lot more like aged Chimay than Rodenbach Grand Cru, though it was nowhere near as good as either. Thanks to beer ledgend! stephen louis (162), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Oct 17, 2004 2002 vintage.
Pours a ruby amber red with a tan head, and tonnes of floaties...the nose is slightly sour, and malty.
On the Taste:yellow plums, spicy yeast, tangy cherrys, and a metallic bite, that mellows into candy and carmel, the finish drys up real nice, and leave a warm glow in the mouth and belly.
well worth your time.

Imagine the best qualities of a dark lambic, this is it! It doesn’t feel like an 8% beer, they have it so well balanced. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada Oct 9, 2004 mmm this was amazingly complex and delicious. Initally out of the bottle it was very metallic, but it got infinitely better. The flavour is initially vinous and tannic, very dry. I then moves into a wonderful sour kriek flavour. This was delicous. mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2004 Updated: Oct 9, 2004Upon decorking, the distinctly sour, then yeasty nose practically fills the room. Lightly carbonated with almost no head retention, Goudenbond appears murky but drinks like white wine, with plenty of fruity malt-yeast interaction behind the tartness. Very clean, dry finish with lingering acid, but watch out for the sediment! crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Oct 5, 2004 a new style for me. poured a murky brown color with a thin sligtly off white head which had minimal retention at best. Aroma was malty and tart as was the flavor/ Flavor had some cranberry and lemon like qualities. Not a heavy beer at all. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2004 Copper with no appreciable head. This style is an acquired taste that I haven’t as yet acquired but I continue to try. Very tart aroma and flavor. Just not a very enjoyable drink for me. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2004 Updated: Sep 26, 2004I suppose there is an art to appreciating flemish sours. Though they do tend to rank rather highly.. this one is certainly no exception. Dark Brown cola color with a thin light brown head. not so heavy on the sour or the and fruity (although there are definitely some cherries). Moderately carbonated and holds a rather woodsy and chalky mouthfeel. A good followup to the quelque chose... SMOOTH!
