norsedoc (162), USA Oct 29, 2008 Pours brown with little head. Aromas of molasses, raisin, plum, and vinegar. Complex sweet and sour flavor with brown sugar and cherry. Finishes fairly quick with just some of the sourness lingering. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 22, 2008 375 ml, 2007 vintage. Deep copper-chestnut with a lasting inch of crunchy foam. Aroma of musty malt vinegar, brown sugar and cherries. Tastes of tart cherry, apple cider vinegar, raisins, must, molasses and merlot. Medium-heavy body is creamy, yet watery and acidic-tingly and dry enough to be a refreshing summer drink. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 20, 2008 Tasting at mcbackus 10/19. Let me just rate this by saying: this beer is what duchess wishes it was. Seriously. end of story. MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Oct 18, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a hazy dark gold with a moderate off white head. Aroma is tart, pears, apple, and a bit of funk. Very sour flavors with darker fruitiness coming through. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle from Binny’s (South Loop, Chicago, IL). Poured a very nice dark brownish with red notes and a bit of yeasty floaties with a sizable tan head that dissipates and laces a bit. Aromas are a bit light, but can sense some vague oaky notes and some light sweetness reminiscent of a fruity bouquet. Taste is similar, light on the sour (But still present), instead boasting it’s fruity notes, grapes and light winey notes complimenting the lighter sourness. Light touches of oak tucked in well. This beer almost seems like a librarian.. all prim and proper, with the potential to be something grand. Nice mouthfeel, deep subtle finish. Very nice. Cheers! thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a dark tan/light brown. Moderate foamy head. Good amount of sediment settles to the bottom. Aroma is pretty fruity. Thats about all I get from it. Flavor, however...tart. Very fruity, a lot of grape, raisin, plum, apple, etc. Very much more like a wine to me than a beer. No hop or leafy flavor at all. Very little malt, although it is present. Definitely pretty good, but not really my thing. pantanap (1323), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 bottle from a recent trade..... dark mohogany brown with a thin off-white head.... aroma of rich toffee and caramels, slightly woody without any distinguishing sour components which seems odd considering this is labeled as a sour.... sweet dried cherries dominated by caramel/tofee malts with little to no sourness to it. mor in line with a sweet and woody cherry cider. mild to medium carbonation. drinkable but probably wouldn’t be high on my list to have again. jeff789 (359), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2008 Sour Ales are easily my favorite style. I’ve had sour ales i’ve liked more than this, and i’ve had quite a few more that i’ve liked less than this. Quite complex... Notes of berry, plum, apple? The tartness/sourness was not near the sour of many other Flemish Ales... I found the sweet/sour play to be a little unbalance on the sweet side.
