Infinitely complex in aroma and flavor with notes of maltiness and tartness throughout. An unsurpassed old brown with the richness and complexity of a vintage wine.

Appearance: dark reddish brown, small off-white head. Great complex aroma, fruity sourness, apple and plums, but also some caramel and quite some vanilla. Nice woody aftertaste, and a bit funky, but not too much. Taste seems not as full as a few years ago. My favourite beer, I’m very happy I can buy it close by. Once openend one after keeping it a year, and it was even better - maybe I’ll do another rating of that later.

Dark brown color with a minimal light beige head with short duration. Aroma has vinous notes, barrel and ripe red fruits. Flavor is sourish, notes of tartiness and red wine with barrel hints, some cherries and burnt sugar. Sourish final with a great complexity and a light sweetness with ripe fruity notes.

_Philomath (12) - Canton, Yukon, CANADA - JAN 11, 2015
Nose of big sourish berries, some burnt malt, wood, and a touch of funk. Dark brown color, small tan head, which diminishes quickly. Light acidic initial, sweet ripe berries, thin cheesy notes, brown sugar. Thin-medium body, gentle carbonation, light astringency. Unexpectedly good and complex.

Deep brown body. Tan head. Fig/cherry/plum/earthy aromas/ some raspberry. Medium sour presence. Finishes like a dubbel as the dark fruit and earthy character of the beer overpowers the palate. unique.

Dark brown body with a head that disappears really fast. Aroma is sour fruit, wine, a bit earthy. Taste is sour and winey. Light to medium body, sour dry finish.

0,375l Flasche. Braunes Bier mit kleiner Schaumkrone. Riecht nach Röstmalzen und leicht nach Trockenfrüchten. Schmeckt auch so; toll abgestimmt.

tmoreau (2621) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2014
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served showing a deep mahogany hue, with a presentable layer of light tan head foam, and wavy cling to the lacing. The nose was esters galore, with dark fruit as plum & raisin, berries, cherry, and vinous-like concord grape. Medium bodied, with decent spritz to the carbonation, the taste continued the esters, showed tartness, dryness, and some alcohol, was well balanced, but not overly expressive flavor. Almost sessionable.

Well-balanced blend of tart sourness and mildly sweet fruitiness. Highly complex aroma full of spices, sour fruit, stables, earth and wood. A truly inspired brew.
