Infinitely complex in aroma and flavor with notes of maltiness and tartness throughout. An unsurpassed old brown with the richness and complexity of a vintage wine.

This Goudenband beer is a very famous Belgian beer. This classic beer might be one of the world’s most complex beers. It is based on Oudenaards Brown beer. This mixed fermented brew then matures for 4 to even 12 months in the Liefmans cellars. Afterwards Liefmans starts cutting the mature brews till Goudenband is created. By doing so, Liefmans actually makes sure every edition is unique. We advise to keep this provision beer in your cellar. So this beer can mature a bit more.

Light brown pour with thin tan foam. Sour citrus-like aroma underlaid with toasty malt. Taste is light sour, but this dissapates to a malty edge that lingers. Hops not particularly noticeable, but a low level of earthy bitterness is present as well. Quite complex flavour. Carbonation medium, as well as the mouthfeel. Finishes clean and dry with that lingering dark malt hint.

Pours brown, slightly hazy with big white head. Lots of tart fruits, red berries, red wine, oak, some burned sugar, vinegar. Medium sweet at first, then super fruity with sour, dry and oaky finish. Medium body, high carbonatio. Classic.

Pours deep ruby brown with a big light tan head and nice lacing. Wonderful aroma of red currants and cherries, funk, vinegar, candy/caramel, hints of darker malts and chocolate. Nicely balanced taste: medium sourness upfront with light sweetness lingering behind, hints of crispy bitterness on finish. Light to medium body, high carbonation, nice mellow alcoholic warmth on finish, some stickiness. Excellent!

0.75 l bottle with a champagne cork from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Appearance is dark brown. Aroma has raisins and other dried fruits. Caramel and liquorice or something... and sourness in your throat. Very complex. This was blend 2016 and I probably drank it too young.

Decent biere rouge, but certainly not with the complexity od others within the style. Fairly easy to drink and enjoyable though.
