4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This Goudenband beer is a very famous Belgian beer. This classic beer might be one of the world’s most complex beers. It is based on Oudenaards Brown beer. This mixed fermented brew then matures for 4 to even 12 months in the Liefmans cellars.
Afterwards Liefmans starts cutting the mature brews till Goudenband is created. By doing so, Liefmans actually makes sure every edition is unique. We advise to keep this provision beer in your cellar. So this beer can mature a bit more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
At home, bottle. Clear dark brown with white head. Didn’t expect the dark color! Fruity, sugary sweetness, with sour bend. Roastedness, roasted grain, sour grain, very old fermented cherries, chocolate malts. Over medium sweetness, under medium sour. High pitched sweetness like sugar replacements, aspartame & other crap. Very easy going, a bit too easy, kinda bland and mainly sweet. Enjoyed the kriek much more.

If (like me) you’re not a massive fan of sours, this brown is much more gentle than some of the red ones, not as acidic and leaves a much more pleasureable aftertaste on the palate

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home. One year old bottle. Pours a clear nut brown color with a small light brown head. Aroma of vinegar, oak, brown sugar, dried fruit and wild berries. Pretty sweet flavour of brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, dried fruit, heather, oak and chocolate. Slick mouth feel, medium body and a very light bitterness. An easy-drinking and sweet oud brune.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer (I could swear I had rated this beer before, but apparently not). Dark reddish brown colour, large beige head. The aroma has first a whiff of smoke, then notes of red wine, red wine vinegar, oak and horse stable. Pleasant flavour, malty, fruity and only moderately sour, again notes of red wine, red wine vinegar and oak, hardly any noticeable hops. Still easy drinking, due to the fruitiness. The alcohol is well hidden. Nice one.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Dark brown colour, with almost no head. Nose is basement, wet leaves, slight sourness. Taste is low bitterness, and low slightness. Complex tannins like a red wine. Sticky mouthfeel. Interesting experience, but won’t be my favorite.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cork and caged 375ml bottle at home on 29th Feb 2016. Had this years ago at the Liefmans blending facility in Oudenaarde after a tour around the place, very interesting place and a very interesting beer. Ruby hue to the red/brown body, no head worthy of the name. Really liked the semi-sour wine like feel to the brew and the deep body depth it has. Drinking this brought back some happy memories, I will be buying some more when I hit Belgium again.

Robe brune sombre zo reflets rubis-rouges-bordeaux.
