Weiter sauer, sehr lecker!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 beerbuzzmontreal (3490) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 13, 2010
Pours a cloudy ruby color with a medium beige head. Nice aroma of tart cherries with mild sourness. Superb flavor of cherries with tartness and dryness, there’s definitely no sweetness in there. This is quite excellent.

Sat inThe Erasmus with my lovely new wife on our honeymoon. She’s a good un. It came with the usual ’do you know this is unsweetened’ warning from the odd and amusing barman. I didn’t. Any hoo, it’s a corker. Red, purple, pink with no head. Aroma of I don’t know what, cherries and some freshness in a way I’m struggling to describe. Keep thinking new born babies, freshly washed clothes, summers day etc etc but I’m not a poet or a good rater. It smelled lovely. And tasted very nice. Unsweetened doesn’t mean it’s not sweet. Totally refreshing. Cherries of course. Love The Erasmus. Love Bruges and Belgium. Love my missus. Full of love right now, drinking a lovely beer and lovely surroundings. Top stuff.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 bu11zeye (11113) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUL 25, 2009
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2009 (Draught at Erasmus, 3 samples) The waitress asks what beer I would like to try and with an anxious smile I ask for the Ongezoet op Vat. The waitress gives me a look back and pauses…. “Do you know that this beer is unsweetened?” she asks. I responded, “yes, thank god!” All I had drunk for the past two days in Bruges were sweetened lambics… The beer comes to the table with a lightly hazy glistening red body with a spare ring of tiny white bubbles atop. The aroma is very clean and refreshing like stepping outside in the spring to the essence of the dew in the garden, fresh cherries, perfume on a sexy young lady, and some light barnyard scents in the distance. Flavor of assertive acidic cherries and lots of funkiness. Perfectly refreshing, mouthwatering, endorphin rocking symphony in my mouth. I would make this a staple in my cellar, if they only bottled this heavenly delight.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 marcus (5013) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 22, 2009
On tap at Erasmus. This bright red lambic poured with no head and a cherry and vinegar aroma. There is a sour cherry flavor that has the mellow lambeek characteristics. Tastes a bit like Schaerbeekse Kriek.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bhensonb (9004) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 17, 2009
Tap at Erasmus. Pours a deep cherry red with small bubbles. Aroma of fairly sour cherries - Schaerbeekse. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is sour. Also cherry. Smooth. Acidic mellowing to tart. It’s woody. It’s the best cooking cherry.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MaxxDaddy (311) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 6, 2009
@ Erasmus. Pours cherry red and practically still. Aroma of sour cherries and plenty of funk. Taste is huge sour cherries with some pits. Very refreshing on the palate. Finish is lingering sour cherry. Probably the best kriek I’ve had in terms of melding cherry flavor with sour funk. Probably the best kriek I’ve had period. +1 to why the hell isn’t this bottled?
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 reakt (948) - Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 5, 2009
Op en vat @ Erasmus, Brugges. Tart tannic cherry with a slight woody note but mostly awesome sour sherbetty cherryness. Why the hell don’t they bottle this?
