A well balanced American Pale Ale accentuated by floral Cascade hops and our unique introduction of grapefruit peel to compliment the citrus notes of the hops. Formerly The Pioneer Pale Ale.

Pours a pale orange color with a finger of white head. Smell is a bit of spicy hops, backed by a nutty, caramel aroma. Taste is spicy, slightly citrusy hops, followed by a grainy, bready flavor, finished out with a dry, grapefruit peel finish.

serviceable pale ale. Bottle from Woodman’s. Drinkable though not as hoppy as the style normally is these days.

mango and caramel on the nose. Easy drinking enough but nothing to stand out so many great pale ale’s on the market. I enjoyed the hop dish much better.

Bottle poured a clear tarnished gold with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of bread, earthinmess, pine and a hint of grapefruit. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth dry finish. Flvors of caramel, light earthiness and light pine with a smooth dry lightly bitter finish.

12oz bottle, purchased from Brennan’s in Madison during GTMW. Mostly clear orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Some particles floating in the body. Decent reaches of lace, kind of loose, though. Caramel malts, some metallic. Bigger earthy bitterness. More dry finish. Medium body. Kind of rough, lighter carbonation. Some grapefruit peel, not much to the aroma hopwise, though. Bigger bitterness, lighter sweetness. Not a great pale ale. Kind a little astringent, and a little metallic. Kind of an acidic roughness in the finish.

Nitro pour. Fine bubbled bright orange. Chlorine, tin and copper in a clanging, sharp aroma. Grapefruit rind, and some resin provide reasonable backing bitterness. A purposeful swirl releases a creamy, lavender and vanilla tinted sweetness.

Raspberry tea, inoffensive metallic tones, and biscuit pale malt outline a drinkable, non-detailed flavor. Little hints of pineapple and candied citrus can be found in the corners, while the mineral and crystal flavors cast a much longer shadow.

The nitro texture does nothing for a beer like this. The faintness of everything is exacerbated. However, this is a reasonably tasty and well put together offering. I’m surprised to see the overall so low here.

Hop bitterness as expected for the IBU. Aftertaste good. Sessionable ABV. Nice ale. Have bought it twice & will again.

6 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom as part of a six-beer flight. Consumed on 5-30-14. This beer is listed in the database as being brewed at Cold Spring, but I do not believe that is the case, as I had it on tap at the brewery’s taproom, and I believe Minnesota state law prohibits a brewery from selling at its taproom any beer not brewed on site. Pours a clear brass with beige head. Simple, subtle aroma features cracker and pine scents. Pleasant enough but weak smell. Dry, piney, lemony flavor features flavor elements of pine needles and minerals. Cracker and whole wheat bread. Like the aroma, the flavor is reasonably pleasant but excessively simple. Medium body. Smooth and lively in the palate. Overall, decent but forgettable.
