UPDATED: MAY 19, 2013 12oz bottle split. Hazy, pale, yellow-tan color, soapy off white head that fades into a thin, oily non-presence. Fruity sweet aroma, a touch of lemony funk. I almost get some peach notes in my first sip. Soft on the palate, well above par for an American Saison. Mellow fruity tones, with a gentle peppery hop balance. Fruity tangerine and sweet malt finish. Delicious and refreshing, this is one to seek out. Wow.

EDIT: I am re-reviewing this beer, because I feel that my first review lacked quality. Poured into Ommegang chalice. Pours 1 finger of white head. Head fades down quick leaving some splattered lace. Color is a clear golden straw yellow. Aroma: Spices, lemon zest, yeast, cloves, bananas. It reminds me a little of a hefe with some extra spices and a Belgium yeast. Taste: Big spice flavor. Lemons, cloves, grass, yeast, and a little fruit flavor. Pretty decent. Mouthfeel: Crisp and refreshing. Fairly light bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends with a slight dry aftertaste, somewhat clean. Overall, this is a very drinkable saison, as most of them are. Nice flavors and a good representation of the style. This one is worth a try. Poured from bottle into my favorite tulip glass. Pours a very clear golden color. Slight head with no lacing. Smells of cloves and slight banana. Smooth taste. Very little to no hop flavor. Dry after taste. This is a beer for the summer time, although I am drinking it mid-winter in MN, oh well. Drinkable for sure!

Pours golden with white head, aroma is slight belgian spice and esters. Taste is light ester banana and spices with a slightly sweet middle that finishes dry and rather plain. Not bad flavors, just not many of them.

12 oz bottle at Funky Five 2009. Pours a mostly hazy solid light gold with a foamy mostly lasting white head- some streaky lace. Aroma is mostly yeasty- too fresh or hasn’t settled or dissipated- but there is slight sulfur, but also grassy herbal notes, big wheat malts, toast, crackery a slight solvent or cleanser with warming biscuit and musty almost mold notes. Flavor is crackery and wheaty, with grass, herbs, spices, pepper (spicy wit yeast with lemon zest), raw fresh sulfurous yeast, doughy, phenolic moderate nice saison yeast character, slight salt and light mineral in the finish- seems unrefined overall, but the finish is fairly dry- ok for drinking but doesnt quite cut it as a good saison.

Pours a semi-clear golden straw blonde brew with a slow dissolving white head that leaves behind a nice spotty lacing and a thin white ring. Bottle Aroma of yeast, a touch of banana esters, some light cloves, and a hint of white bread malt. Taste is light to medium bodied with some carbonation with flavors of dry white bread malt, banana esters, cloves a touch of bubblegum, and dry herbs. Finish is semi-dry with a fast disappearing herbal spice aftertaste. Remember to allow this saison to come up to room temperature to get the full flavor and aroma. Love this Saison

Bottle from a trade, can’t remember who with at this point. Also, thought I had tried this already (and may have in fact), and almost gave this to someone as an extra before I checked, so hooray for discovering hidden gems in the cellar. Pours a very cloudy golden yellow with a medium sized creamy white head. Nice musk, a bit of banana, wheat, peppery. Medium bodied, lightly sweet, a bit more musky yeast. Finishes lightly, touch of sweetness, bit of fruit. Not bad.

Bottle sample at work... thanks to Wellstone for sending this out my way! It probably deserves a higher rating than what I gave it, but I’ve just never been a fan of saisons. Hay, barnyard, exactly what you expect from a fruitless saison. Hard to say more than that... if you like saisons or you need the rating, it isn’t bad. Otherwise, stick to something a little safer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold body with a small fizzy white head that faded fairly quickly. The nose is fairly restrained in the spice department, which is nice to see. Pale slightly bready malts with a nice yeast profile and some floral notes. The flavor is a little bland, the light spicing is better than going overboard, but there’s not a whole lot of softness or complexity to the malts. Tastes more like a generic "Golden/Blond Ale" than a a true Belgian style Saison, there’s no farmhouse character or funkiness at all. Medium bodied with slight stickiness and soft fizzy carbonation. An OK beer I guess, but a little lacking within the realm of the style.

12oz bottle courtesy of buebie. Pours a very light and very clear yellow with a small bubbly white head that recedes slowly to a solid collar but leaves no trace of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet with some green apples and apricots on top of grass and Belgian yeast spiciness. The taste is light and almost watery with some grassy hops up front and apples and pears following closely. The finish is dry and very much like a pilsner honestly. In fact, the whole thing tastes more like a pilsner than a saison now that I think about it. The mouthfeel is light bodied and extremely crisp and clean for the style. It’s got very little spiciness that I would expect in the style. This is a solid and very drinkable beer but I don’t think it’s really great for the style, as it offers very little complexity.
