COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This pale golder, Belgian-influenced ale is for everyone: Farm Girl, wannabe Farm Girl. In the Belgian Farmhouse tradition, this brew has a dry malt finish and a spicyness that only Belgian yeasts can create. Smooth and well rounded... this one can please anyone in any situation, whether you are on the water, in the sun, or hiding from winter’s chill.

Bottle from a trade, can’t remember who with at this point. Also, thought I had tried this already (and may have in fact), and almost gave this to someone as an extra before I checked, so hooray for discovering hidden gems in the cellar. Pours a very cloudy golden yellow with a medium sized creamy white head. Nice musk, a bit of banana, wheat, peppery. Medium bodied, lightly sweet, a bit more musky yeast. Finishes lightly, touch of sweetness, bit of fruit. Not bad.

12oz bottle, purchased from Brennan’s in Madison during my stay for GTMW. Somewhat hazy golden color. Little white head. Leaves decent rows of lace. Banana flavor up front. Mild spice, belgian saison yeast. Medium body. Smooth, lightly soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Lightly spicy herbal taste. Light to moderate bitter. Lighter sweet, light tangy taste. Some orange citrus. Solid saison, pretty nice to enjoy with my sandwich.

Pours golden with white head, aroma is slight belgian spice and esters. Taste is light ester banana and spices with a slightly sweet middle that finishes dry and rather plain. Not bad flavors, just not many of them.

In short: A muddy floral witbier calling itself a Saison. Fails as a Saison, acceptable as muddy thirst quencher
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed fresh as soon as I received it from beastiefan2k, thanks Eugene
The look: Ugly banana purée color topped by a white ring of foam
In long: Nose of yeasty ripe banana esters. Taste of white bread, mangos, bananas, a little lemon zest, marshmallows, citrus fruits. Dead flowers show up in the finish to remove some of the fruity sweetness. Overall this feels like a rather muddy witbier more than a Saison. As far as Saisons are concerned this is a complete failure, but sold as a witbier (or even a hefe) this is an acceptable beer. I’m a Saison-whore so I need to try them all but this just is not a Saison. It’s like they put the wrong beer in the bottle. Like that time a stripper jumped out of the cake, following a mix-up at the bakery, and completely ruined my nephew’s fourth birthday.

Lightly sweet, some straw, spice, banana, and light cereal malt notes. Hazy yellow, nice head. Wheat, cereal, grain, some orange, very carbonated. Very uninteresting.

(12oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear yellow, film of white bubbles, excellent lace. Nose of grass, white pepper, rye, coriander, light spicy. Taste of white pepper, grass, spices, soft carb, creamy, semi-dry finish.

On draught at the Stub and Herb’s in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear golden straw blonde brew with a slow dissolving white head that leaves behind a nice spotty lacing and a thin white ring. Aroma of yeast, a touch of banana esters, some light cloves, and a hint of white bread malt. Taste is light to medium bodied with some carbonation with flavors of dry white bread malt, banana esters, cloves a touch of bubblegum, and dry herbs. Finish is semi-dry with a fast disappearing herbal spice aftertaste. Remember to allow this saison to come up to room temperature to get the full flavor and aroma.

12 oz bottle at Funky Five 2009. Pours a mostly hazy solid light gold with a foamy mostly lasting white head- some streaky lace. Aroma is mostly yeasty- too fresh or hasn’t settled or dissipated- but there is slight sulfur, but also grassy herbal notes, big wheat malts, toast, crackery a slight solvent or cleanser with warming biscuit and musty almost mold notes. Flavor is crackery and wheaty, with grass, herbs, spices, pepper (spicy wit yeast with lemon zest), raw fresh sulfurous yeast, doughy, phenolic moderate nice saison yeast character, slight salt and light mineral in the finish- seems unrefined overall, but the finish is fairly dry- ok for drinking but doesnt quite cut it as a good saison.
