3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 reebtogi (3262) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 24, 2012
A couple of samples at VCBW 2012 pours a pale golden color with a generous white head that leaves some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is light yeast with light fruits and some coriander spice. Taste is malty sweet with some light fruit and malt sweetness with the spices. Flavors are nicely balanced with abundant carbonation and a medium body leaving a pleasant sensation on the palate. A nicely done brew and definitely recommended to try.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - AUG 16, 2012
Bottle from BC Liquors on Alberni and Bute Hazy blond color, with creamy head. The aroma of wheat is a bit spicy, yeasty, but also dirty. Round mouthfeel, some wheat flavor, with moderate yeast spiciness and relatively high bitterness for this beer, yet not excessive. Drinkable but still a bit simple, not sharp enough in the spicy character, and without any fruity touch; because of the strength, it gets closer to a Triple.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lagerboy (668) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 16, 2012
Unclear bright yellow, frothy white head settles and lasts. Yeasty wit citrus zest aroma. Bold and spicy citrus wit taste, coriander and clove, some banana and alcohol. Average carbonation, medium bodied, lightly hopped. Aggresive and delicious, but probably NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 steaky (26) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 18, 2012
650ml bottle. Pleasing fresh smell. Clean and well hopped dry. A good change from the fruited and spiced efforts this style sees.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 WheatKing (703) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 24, 2012
(Bomber from Liquor Plus Douglas) Mmm yes wittier than me that’s for sure. Coriander and zest are there, nicely balanced. I also had this as a base for some Thai-style beer they had on cask at the Beagle one night, and it worked exceptionally well. I’m not a big fan of the style but yeah this makes most wits taste like crap.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20 Crit (3075) - New Westminster, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 16, 2012
Gold, white head.Coriander, citrus nose. Watery but astringent profile, orange peel.Long bitter hop finish doesn’t meld, comes across unblended.
Not a good effort
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 stantheman (362) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 15, 2012
From a large bottle, purchased at Viti in NW. Pale, golden color in the glass. Generous head, but faded fast. Sweet and citrus to the nose. Flavor well balanced between sweet, citrus and bitter. Clean and crisp. A very pleasant summer whitbier.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Matts_Property (831) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 31, 2012
Bottle split with mcberko. Pours cloudy yellow with a small lasting white head. Aroma of wheat, hay, grass, coriander, some citrus. Flavour the same with a dry hop finish. Light to medium body. Pleasant flavours. Nice if you’re looking for something light and refreshing.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gerbeer (857) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 31, 2012
650 ml bottle from 16th St. Pours a clear golden yellow with medium head and lots of carbonation. Aromas of over-ripe bananas, bubble gum, yeast, cloves, and a funky medicinal note. Unfortunately the medicinal note carries through into the initial taste yielding to bitter lemon and phenolic flavors. Salty, tart, and dry finish. Expecting more after the fabulous Belgian Black.
