22oz bottle, shared by DanielCoor. Clear golden, slightly orange color. Thin off-white head. Couple loose dots of lace. Nice lightly citrusy hoppy flavor, light belgian candy sugar. Bigger body. Light carbonation, lightly dry finish. Moderately zesty, light sweet, light bitter taste, not bad. Solid Belgian Strong

22 oz. bottle shared by Danny- thanks again! Pours a clear gold color with a white ring for a head. Notes of sweet malts, crackers, straw, apricot, and honey. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. Reminds me more of a tripel than a saison, or at least the take on the style I really like.

Bomber to snifter (thanks to whoever shared this one). Looks good for the style; a transparent orange with white head that dissipates into lacing fairly quickly. Smells doughy, yeasty, and spicy with a bit of citrus. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blankboy (5191) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 29, 2013
My bottle [650ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel. Pours a hazy gold with little floaties and an average size lasting frothy white head. Aroma: I love it! Belgian yeast, herbs, light hops, spices and fruit. Flavour’s just as good: Dry, spicy, yeasty and fruity along with herbs and a hint of spice. Medium bodied. A great Saison!

2012-01-18. Crisp dark yellow with a small white head. 3+ Moderately alcoholic, lightly yeasty, Saison aroma, lightly funky, more nuanced than I am grasping at this point I suspect. 7++ Flavour is quite pleasant, dry but sort of fruity, modest yeasty funk, moderate bitterness throughout. 7++ Smooth average body. Dangerously drinkable, the alcohol is surprisingly restrained. Very nice. Bottle shared by Blankboy

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 gramity (1090) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 29, 2012
Hazy golden orange with a large foamy head which disipates quickly. Fruity esters dominate the aroma, spices and herbs create a complex citrusy, yeasty Belgian flavor, medium bodied with high carbonation. This beer just kept tasting better and better, I should have gotten two!
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 steaky (26) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 18, 2012
Awesome in a bottle. Drink one; drink two! A beer to celebrate the day with. Spruce, citrus, herbs, floral. Looks like the best beer in the world.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gerbeer (890) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 18, 2012
650 ml bottle. Pours a light gold with medium persistent head. Aromas of lemons and yeast. Flavors of lemons and white pepper with light floral/grassy notes. Mild and crisp for this style of saison but very nice.

Wow I’m definitely way off the mean for not particularly liking this beer, but there ya go. I found it to have no barnyardness whatsoever, to me it was like a stale pale ale with a tiny bit of plumminess but what was there was quite bland. Differing tastes, I guess, I love how Lighthouse is coming out with rarer styles but I just can’t recommend this, not awful but I shouldn’t have to work to get through it.

(Originally written for the Spring 2011 issue of TAPS Magazine.) This third instalment in Lighthouse’s “Small Brewery - Big Flavour” series is a perfect example of what breweries can do with their limited edition and one-off brews. Pouring a slightly hazy golden-orange with a thick and creamy white head, it looks great in the glass, and the aroma is a big and bold melange of tropical fruit (pineapple and papaya), coriander, lemon and spicy yeast. All of this comes through in the flavour as well, with the addition of orange zest, pepper and chamomile in the finish. It could use a touch more acidity to cut some of the fruity sweetness, but other than that, it’s top notch.
