2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 fiulijn (10365) - Como, ITALY - JUL 31, 2010
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, as St. Augustine’s Stout Black color. Light burnt malt aroma. Weak body, light burnt malt flavor. Dry mouthfeel. Probably suitable to a Stout lover, not badly brewed, but quite useless to me.

Very dark brown colour. Very coffeeish, tarry, slightly tobaccoey aroma with slight husky malt. Body is moderate. Flavour leans towards sweet nutty-coffee with a hint of burnt that lends a certain dryness to the finish.

A deep dark stout with an extra thick froathy moka head. A light chocolate malt aroma, very faint. In mouth, a good dose of bitter chocolate, black coffee, light metallic notes, medium bodied. A lighht stout thats a keeper! Can. From Capflu, Dec. 2006.

355 ml can. Dark black with a bit of ruby tint. Nice clean coffee and roasted barley aroma. There is a bit of sweet caramel, nuts, and dusty yeast character in back of this. Flavour is a bit sweet, a candyish character similar to that in their amber. Flavour also shows coffee, sweet nutty malts with a clean roasty finish. The best of the Lighthouse beers.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (6095) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 25, 2005
thanks to JoeMcPhee. Can spritzed everywhere. No metallic taste from can. Rather basic, a bit of roast but drinkable, refreshing on summer day. Medium mouthfeel. Balanced

12oz can. Clearish dark brown, decent light beige head. One-dimensional aroma shows strong roastiness that hides most of the nuances underneath, leaving us with burnt malts reminiscent of chocolate powder and a vague coffee grain identity that remains simple and lightly vegetal. Medium body, spare carbonation, soft texture, rather dull and lifeless stout that, while focusing on the roasty side of things, but is lacking in other elements to the point that it is not even close to black.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (5804) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 4, 2007
Canned. Poured clear deeper brown with a short-lived cap of medium beige head. The aroma picked up sweet dusty dark chocolates with a bit of caramel and some coffee sweetness.. The flavor had primarily darker chocolates with some cocoa sweetness and some mild coffee.. more coffee and chocolate sweetness toward the end, but nothing great. Lighter-bodied with sweetness throughout, but not much substance... sweet, simple finish. OK..

Can provided by Josh and served in my trusty pint glass:
Pours a deep brown hue with a creamy tan head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of dusty yeast esters, coffee, mocha, hint of smoke, grassy hops, and a touch of twangy grapefruit. The taste starts with a layer of sweet malts and is backed up by a citric and even lightly piney hops balance. Really more dry stout than anything with it’s lively and dry mouthfeel. Not too shabby, a nice surprise.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 5, 2007
Strong roasty aroma offers plenty of liquorice and bittersweet dark chocolate with some light lactic notes. Clear dark brown, almost black body is topped by a fizzy brown-tan head that recedes rapidly to ring. Coffee, hickory, roast, bittersweet chocolate, grape-like fruitiness and liquorice flavours. Sweetness is cut off by dark malt bitterness and the interplay between sweet and bitter continues in the aftertaste. Medium body is quite dry with moderate carbonation and just the right amount of puckering astringency. What a pleasant surprise! Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Can (BCLS on Cambie at 39th, Apr-07).
