Black, dense head w/massive bubbles - slips to a nice sheen and lacing. Smokey, chocolate nose. Taste is pretty smokey, chocolate and finishes slightly astringent. Overall, a tasty beer.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Smells weird. Very hard to describe, but like raisins and crackers or something. Tastes even weirder than it smells. Just nasty. Medium body, medium carbonation, and some foam.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice roasty elements, a little harsh astringency in the finish. The lagering gives it a really smooth body.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a fizzy bubbly beige head. Tastes like dark roasted malt, burnt toast, ashy wood, lightly astringent alcohol. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like roasted malt, burnt toast, light smoke, and light ash.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle in a teku. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and light coffee, a little dough, some sweetness, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same with something just the tiniest bit off. Average to smooth texture. A pretty good porter, but something is a little off here.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very rich porter. Quite strong espresso and chocolate notes. Mouthfeel is true porter -- not thick like a stout. If anything's off putting is that the beer is unexpectedly highly carbonated.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle, undated, served in a snifter at about 50-55F.
This porter pours nearly black with a small, dark tan head that has weak retention but leaves good lacing.
The aroma has an attractive mix of malted and dark roasted grains with hints of toffee and dark fruits.
Flavor: strong and rich, with a load of dark roasted grains. Clear suggestions of both coffee and dark chocolate add to the flavor. Some burnt grain with a touch of smoke but in proportion to the other dark roasted grain flavors. Hops not obvious except in the mildly bitter balance of this bitter+sweet porter.
Feel: Soft, low carbonation. Full bodied. Creamy smooth.
O: an extreme porter with fairly well hidden alcohol.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours pitch black with a smaller mocha-tan head that leaves some sticky lace. Nose involves lots of dark chocolate, licorice, roasted barley, and earthy hops. Fairly sweet flavor, but very bitter. Medium-heavy body, sticky, oily, with a big grassy dry bitter finish. A cool brew. The intense hoppiness is the biggest surprise, and there’s plenty of nuance to the malt.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with a half inch tan head that lingered around for a long time. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted/burnt malt, coffee, chocolate and dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like roasted/burnt malt, dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, coffee, and a bit of licorice. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s somewhat creamy and has moderate carbonation. I think it’s a good, bitter roasty porter. $11.49 a bottle.
