Commercial Description:
As you might expect from a Lightning Beer, we made an American Lager that is unlike others. It is big, has a slight corn taste associated with the style, hefty hopping and a true laggered overall taste. For hops, we used American varieties and a selected strain of American Lager yeast for fermentation. This is a big beer: around 8.3% A.B.V., with a slight aroma of hops, a moderate amount of bittering hops to balance the maltiness of the beer, and a clean fermentation from the yeast and temperatures we use through the process.

Bomber at PPRBSG 09. Pours a hazy deep copper with a spritzy head. Aroma is toasted pale malts, crackery light honey, floral, and doughy with some DMS, and stale old cheesy hops. Flavor is herbal, earthy toast, sweet, DMS, light tartness and metallic hints, bitter orange rind, zesty grassy and herbal hops- cardboard and oxidation as well. Bleh.

Bomber. Pours a red-amber, somewhat murky, with minimal (to no) head. Lots of effervescence. What aroma there is is of sweet, grassy, barnyard funk, with maybe a touch of bread. Taste is very sweet. LOTS of malt. Caramel-check; bread-check; hay-check, I think; etc. etc. Hops are resin and floral with some grass. Some taste of dough and cheese, but very little. Otherwise, the alcohol is well hidden. It’s not bad, there’s just not too much going on. As a "lager", it’s true to the "style" I guess. Not sure if I’ll finish it or not.

Bottle. Pours with a small white head over a hazy golden body with good lace. Aroma of corn, grass and spicy grain. Taste is alcohol, bready with sweetness, grassy notes and some crispness. Light bubbles and quite refreshing for the high ABV. Couldn’t really bring my self to drink a lot of this, had a nasty flavor when it warmed and the alcohol clashed.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of DrBill. Slightly hazy golden with a small, rough white head. Sweet and malty nose. Medium body, very solid and sweet malt base while I don’t really pick up any corn. Hardly any bitternes. Perfect if you love malts! 070709

22 fl oz bottle at the Stone Bistro, courtesy of Dr Bill. Pours and golden orange with a fully gone head. Vague metallic and cornish aroma. Sweet caramel malt flavoured. Light fruity touch. Very clean and malty flavoured into the far finish.

This stuff is hooch, plain and simple. Way way boozy. The flavor is actually pretty nice, but it’s just too damn big to be appreciated as an American lager. It’s a craft brewed malt liquor, plain and simple.

22 oz bottle purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, California. Pour is very slight haze golden yellow with a one inch white head that falls immediately. A bunch of carbonation bubbles. Aroma of sweet cherry, slight metallic and some light straw. Taste is sweet cherry vanilla, edgy dirty grassiness, turns really chemically in the middle. Palate is medium, cloying sweetness - really strange almost plastic thing going on. Big fusels. This was more like a malt liquor then other craft malt liquors I have had. Not a great thing.
