3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a rarity among American wheat beers it has a big banana presence. I can only recall New Glarus Dancing man wheat as coming close. Pairs well with bratwurst and potatoes.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance was cloudy light gold with creamy off white diminishing 1 finger head, no lacing. Aromas are banana, light clove, bread and cracked wheat, no alcohol. Taste are soft banana upfront then light wheat backbone with clove and lemon. Palate was soft CO2 with light body, a lasting citrusy wheaty finish. Overall a solid American Hefe, a touch light on the CO2.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewery. It poured a cloudy orange color with a white head. The aroma was of banana, some bread with a touch of light spice. The taste was similar to the aroma with some bread, malts, fruit and sweetness. Tasty.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
June 3rd, 2012 - Thunderweizens are my favorite summer beer. They’re consistently deep with flavor, and have a nice chewiness without making me or my palate sluggish or drunk. Lightning’s version of the Hefeweizen - the Thunderweizen - has come recommended by many. It’s a light and golden beer with that unfiltered fogginess in the body, and a head that plumps up after the pour, and thins out quickly. The aroma is dominated by bananas, and goes easy on the clove that often appears in the style. Where the aroma is subtle the carbonation is rough and powerful, popping and fizzing all the way through the aftertaste like a Pop-Rock. The flavor is decent, but comes off as a little flat when paired with such a rambunctious mouthfeel - a wheat layer and a nice bread savoriness, and some sweet roasted butternut squash in the aftertaste, but flavors too meek to stand up to an active texture.

>> Cloudy straw pour, good foam. Extreme estery nose with yellow apple. Pretty spot on. Taste is bright, juicy, big yellow apple. Good palate. One of their better beers.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very nice local version of a German Hefeweizen. Pours rich, cloudy gold with a nice white head, no lacing. Aroma of banana, clove, citrus, and wheat. Delicious, rich taste, medium sweet and light sour. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, and sweet/sour finish. A real winner, would repeat. I didn’t know they made such good beer in Poway.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Appearance: Golden orange with a decent head.
Smell: I got subtle citrus in the smell.
Taste: My first taste was quite sharp. I didn’t really get as much lemon or orange as I would have thought from the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Too much bite. A smoother hef where the flavors find balance is more to my liking. Perhaps not an ideal bottle of Thunderweizen?
Drinkability: Okay, I guess. Not a favorite.
