COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lindemans Cassis is a lambic made from local barley, unmalted wheat, and wild yeast. After spontaneous fermentation the lambic is aged in oak. Black currants are added creating a secondary fermentation and yielding an ale of exceptional flavor and complexity.

It pours a dark purple, almost like grape jelly with a purple head. It stays about 30 seconds, very carbonated and decent lacing The aroma is light, smells like fresh red grapes light sour aroma. The taste is good very sweet, tastes like grape juice but in a good way. The only complaint is that there isn’t enough tartness to the beer. Its all sweet, no sour. The mouthfeel is ok doesn’t really stick to your mouth, but the taste lastes awhile. Its very drinkable could crush this all day long, but its only 4%.

25cl bottle (why might you drink more of this) pours rich deep ruby red grape juice with nice blood orange colored foam head. Please let it be intense with rich sweet/tart currants, please please! I beg you. The aroma offers up sweet sugar syrupy blueberries, vague berries and some modest rich earthy goodness currants (I love you currants). OK, the taste isn’t overly sweet and offers up a decent level of currant like tartness that begins with brief sweet dark berry and current notes and then moves progressively tart with fruity dry tannins. It is sort of a shame I’ve had B. Nectar’s Heart of Darkness and Kuhnhenn’s first run of Tenacious Cassis before this and tasted what they can do with currant goodness. Here it misses the depth of flavor and richness as well as falling short on the earthy goodness currants deliver. This tastes like it was cut with something and just comes up short of what it could be. Into the finish I get hints of the house mildly wild yeast adding just a bit of depth and added tartness and interest.

Bottle: Lively medium airy cherry pink head, disappears fairly quick and leaves a half open lacing on top of a light cloudy deep ruby colored beer. Smell mostly berries and black currant, some hints of cherry a like sweetness, (the lightest) hint of something sour/(wild) yeasty and some fishy grains. Taste is sour sweet with a stingy sour something. There are agains lots of berries with black currant, some yeasty light wood ish notes, sting hay/sting grain notes, light dry, a touch of some sweeter barleys and elder hops (if even to be noticed). Aftertaste is light dry, black currant, wild yeast and stingy light sour and lighter bitter. Medium carbo, light tingly light spicy mouthfeel, medium body and a light creamy. Guess the sweetness is maybe a touch on the higher side, the sourness a bit on the low side, though it is a decent beer.

25 cl bottle @ home. Pours a dark red colour, tints of blue. no head. The aromas are very acidic, but with faint notes of fresh blackcurrants. the taste notes back the aromas up pretty good, although the taste is slightly more acidic, than expected. More lambic-like, than the other lindemans (ie. the Kriek, Apple and Perchesse). A good beer to start learning about lambic.

Scopey (1678) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at my Pre-CBC Tune-Up Tasting. It pours deep purple, with a thin light pink head. The nose is sweet blackcurrant, jammy fruit and Ribena. The taste is tangy blackcurrant, jam, some sourness, lime and Ribena. Medium body and average carbonation. Not offensive at all, at least there is some good tanginess.

3.5%. Cloudy purple beer with a magenta head! Palate is semi dry and semi crisp. Rich blackcurrant totally dominates. Tart enough to cause a bit of eyelid flutter but never overpowering. Finishes tart crisp and dry. An intensely fruity experience!
