3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Goodgrief (1608) - Middletown, Delaware, USA - FEB 20, 2011
Deep golden color, virtually no head. Strong aroma of vinegar. The flavor wasn’t nearly as funky/horseblanketty as other lambics I’ve had. Really sweet and the sugary aspect was dominant. Enough vinegary sourness to keep it from being cloying. My first faro lambic...not bad.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nikiel (675) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 20, 2011
Pours a dark gold/brown with minimal fine foam. Smells sweet and slightly sour. Tastes very sweet and lightly sour of cherries and tangerines. Would pair well with fruit ice cream/ice and Belgian waffles.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 magsinva (284) - Virginia, USA - FEB 20, 2011
This was my first Faro Lambic. It still has the characteristic lambic sourness, but is tempered by the added sugar so its a balanced sourness. I liked it for its uniqueness.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MOboy (503) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - FEB 18, 2011
Pours with a short lived, white foam. The beer is a crystal clear brown and quite effervescent. Nose is mouthwateringly tart with sour apples and toffees. The flavor is a mixture of sugary, sweet tea-like notes with a metallic twang in the finish.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 AHTOH (100) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 16, 2011
355 mL bottle poured into Duvel tulip.
APPEARANCE: Pours deep orange amber. White head is about 1 finger with medium duration. When head settles, it leaves nice layer of film on surface.
AROMA: Lambic, molasses, tart fruit, grain, hay. Faint hint of chalk on nose as well.
TASTE: Brown sugar throughout.
Front of palate is brown sugar, molasses, some candy-like apple.
Mid palate is abundance of tart taste. In particular, notes of tart green apple and tart cherry.
Back of palate is tart with faint grainy dryness.
Finish is complex interplay of sweet, somewhat dry, and tart; with most emphasis on the tart character.
MOUTH FEEL: Lively carbonation. Crisp. Semi-dry. Highly quaffable.
OVERALL: My first faro. Interesting. Complex interplay of sweet and tart. Starts sweet and progresses towards tart. Better suited as a session ale sipped during the daytime, ideally at a cafe. Molasses notes would allow this faro to pair well with bacon (i.e., during brunch, etc.). Another reason this beer would be suitable for brunch is that it could substitute for a mimosa during the meal because of its slightly acidic yet sweet nature. In fact, if I were to exaggerate, would say this faro is like a mimosa with a little maple syrup mixed throughout - though in a very delightful way.
2.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 georgebrassin (154) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 13, 2011
Bottle at Beer Academy in Paris. Cloudy amber with a large rocky head. Aroma is sour brett and citrus. Taste is fruity, not sour at all, cherry, candy.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 DavoleBomb (965) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 7, 2011
Poured into a flute.
3.5 A: Lightly hazed light orange color. Two and a half fingers of frothy yellowish white head with near average retention and moderate amounts of lacing.
4.0 S: Strange, but nice. Lots and lots of candi sugar. Huge sweetness. However, there’s a good bit of saison-like barnyard funkiness to balance. Wild apple fruitiness. A touch of tart acidity.
3.5 T: Good taste, but the candi sugar is present in far too high a level. I can deal with this amount of sweetness in some of Lindeman’s other brews because there is usually a strong enough sourness to balance. This, however, is a couple level of tartness lower, than say, the Kriek. Barnyard funkiness is there again as well as the wild apple, but everything plays second fiddle to the sweetness.
4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good spritzy carbonation. Fairly creamy. Not all that smooth due to the massive amounts of sugar.
3.5 D: Even with the oversweetening, I did enjoy this brew. It’s not something I’d like to drink all the time, but one every couple months would be fine. Interested to say the least.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Beardface (1480) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - FEB 5, 2011
Bottle 16 Tons. Copper colored pour with no head and almost no carbonation. Smelled of sugars, a little dark fruit. Tasted pretty much exclusively of sugar, with a little bit of fruit in it. The single sweetest beer I’ve ever tasted, and not something I need to try again.
