3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 lamas (1033) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 5, 2010
Bottle. Slightly different label than that in the picture. A clear amber/ruby pour with a thick antique white head. A strong aroma of balsamic vinegar, Brettanomyces, red wine, sour apples, some candied sugar, and a little wheat in the background. Thin and sparkling on the way down. Much sweeter in the taste than I had anticipated. Lots of apple juice, candied sugar, and caramel upfront. A little wheat and vanilla in the middle. Very tart/sour at the end with a greater presence of Brett and vinegar qualities along with plenty of McIntosh apples, raspberries, and lemons. The finish is slightly dry.

Clear Copper pour, some citrus and apple aroma, not quite as sweet as I expected, very dry and crisp finish. Quite enjoyable, even if the style is nearly impossible to find.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Thorpe429 (3542) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - NOV 29, 2010
Pours a hazy orange with a large white head. Lots of lacing as it goes down. The smell brings out some citrus, tart grapes and apples, and some malty sweetness. The taste is somewhat sour, but mostly refreshing sweetness. A little bit of earthiness. The body is medium and creamy; overall, this one was quite drinkable, and makes faro a style I’d like to seek out more of.

Amber apple juice colored pour with a thin white head and lots of carbonation. Aroma is beyond funky, tart, sour like a punch in the nose, but in a good way. Flavor was unexpectedly sweet after that nose. Candi-sugar and malt with some tart funky background. You really get a sense of why this is a young unblended Lambic. I wanted to age it.

Bottle from Lone Hill Liquors. Clear amber appearance with a lasting one plus finger whitish head. The aroma is dominated by apple and vinegar with slight funk and a little sweetness. Sweet caramel malt, really not much tartness although it is very acetic. Big on apple and red wine vinegar, maybe a little oak. Cidery. Medium bodied with an interesting mouthfeel from the vinegar notes. Overall this is the lesser of the two faros I’ve had, but a fine beer still I guess.

Pours a clear copper in the glass. Funky ripe apple aroma which was somewhat pleasurable. Flavor was not as sweet as I expected. Some pear flavor followed by a citrus tang & a dry finish. Overall, it’s drinkable. It’s nice to have tried but not my style.

Bottle Pours a clear amber with a bubbly white head. The head leaves quickly and leaves spotty lacing at best. Aroma is strong hints of acid, some sweet candy, fruits, and malts. Has a light carbonation. The flavor is pretty good. A little too sweet for me but really drinkable. has a medium body. The finish is good and the aftertaste lingers for some time. Not really my style but good.
