It’s made from malt, wheat, hops, water, yeast. Candy sugar is added before the bottling takes place. It is a clear, light red colored faro lambic with a small, creamy head.

The pour is sparkling clear with a pale copper color, plenty of effervescence, and an average, fizzy, and white which diminishes quickly and leaves a thin fizz throughout but no lace. The nose is pleasant with wet earth, light sour cherry notes, mushroom funk, wet oak, maybe some grapefruit peel, and a bit of candi sugar; odd not to have any barnyard or horse blanket notes? The palate is lively to fizzy, light to medium, and quenching. The flavor is similar to the nose with the mushroom funky notes becoming almost barnyardy but soon diminishing beneath the candi sweetness, wet oak, wet earth, and tart sour cherries; a quenching acidity but not overly so due to the sweetness of the candi sugar. The finish is fairly long, sweet but still quenching, and noting wet oak, candi sugar, and tart cherries. My first faro and I am surprised by how many differences there are between this and other lambics. The balance of acidity and sweetness was nice but took away from some of the refreshing character. Also the complexity lacked a bit but still a quite drinkable beer.

375ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber, with a large white head, which lasts fairly well, and leaves reasonable lacing. The aroma is a mix of sour, musty, woody and faint leathery notes. It opens with a nice, strong sourness, with perhaps some redcurrant flavour playing through it. The influence of the candy sugar can be felt moving into the mid-palate, which offers some sweetness along with some woody notes. The sour flavour and slight redcurrant notes reappear towards the finish, which is a deft balance between sour and sweet. This is the first non-fruit lambic I have been able to lay my hands on, and it is not disappointing - it certainly lives up to my expectations.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2006 Off-white head, gone in seconds. Copper colour. Easy to drink. Sweet start and sour finish. Also notes of wine and overripe fruits. Pleasent.

Pours dark amber (morning urine) with absolutely no head. Still lots of carbonation, though. Heavy, sweet aroma. Nice fresh tartness without being mouthpuckering, and very sweet which will not appeal to some. I like sweets.

Mon premiere example de cette style et j’aime beaucoup. Light amber/copper colour with a creamy beige head. Sweet with a tang. Beerilicious!

Flaske.

Kind of red and not much head. Aroma is fruity and the taste is like raspberries, but not as light. It’s sweet and the finish is more fruit flavor.

Amber colored beneath a frothy white head. Musty cellar aroma, hints of sweet fruits. Sweet, but certainly not cloying. A little bit of green apple tartness with some faint peach and oak. Not much acidity to speak of. Not great, but a pleasant enough drink.

MAP (1133) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - MAR 29, 2009
Purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. The pour is a very attractive amber with a slight haze to it and a small head. The aroma is a very sweet earthy mix: spicy sweet notes of peach, wood, dirt and wet cobwebs. The flavor is pretty interesting, sweet, syrupy, woody and a slight bit malty. Unfortunately this is a little too sweet for me. At least it has a slight bitterness going for it at the end, and the earthy tones, but it still is a little one-sided.
