2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Just my second Faro beer. Not very familiar with the genre, but out of the two, this wasn’t the best one ;) It’s too sweet to enjoy for me. Has a fruity base of pear, apple and something funky like marzipan combined with soap or something. The the sourness kicks in, which is the special part of this beer, balancing the sweetness out somewhat, resulting in kind of a overload flavor sensation. That’s the part i like, but the flavor base is not my thing and it’s just too sweet without much depth.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
First rating for the Faro style. Not that easy to find as RateBeer shows only 16 active examples of the style. 375 ml bottle purchased at Beverage Warehouse while on a business trip to Los Angeles some 19 months ago ($6.99). POURS a nice sun-brewed tea color, like a deep sunset orange/amber with two fingers of effervescent white foam. AROMA of a not-too-tart vinaigrette, some musty basement, wet oak, a bit of stewed dark fruits, and some red wine that’s been sitting out for too long. FLAVOR of wine-y vinegar, nice berry / fruit touches (strawberry, raspberry, perhaps peach and apricot), mild brown sugar, simple syrup, with some bits of tart funk. I expected something more tart on the tongue, but the added brown sugar does come in to make this a less puckering affair. I wonder if the aging has decreased the sweet content. First experience of this style, and it was pleasant enough (don’t find it cloying like many of the other raters). (1538, 1024)

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Shared 12 oz. bottle. Amber with a white head and plenty of particles floating around. Aroma is tart, vinous, fruity and sweet. Taste is sour, fruity, malty, vinegar, and very sweet. Has an exceptionally sweet candied sugar finish. Overall, it’s a bit strange.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Humlen Ølutsalg, Bergen. Pours a near-clear light amber body with a small white head. Aroma is bretty funk tones, dark sugars, grains, wine cork, nuts, hay and hints of lactic sourness and lemon zest. Taste is cola bean, lemon zest, dark sugars and hints of funk, caramel and minerals. Light body, high carbonation. A strange mixture of sweet and sour, dark nutty sugary tones and bretty funk notes. Interesting, and quite likeable.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Aroma: mostly malt with only small a note of sour fruitiness; Appearance: dark amber with significant amount of particulates floating around; I’m a little scared; very thin head that dissipates quickly; Taste: basically like cherry kool-aid; extreme sweetness with a sour finish; Palate: heavy body with long, sweet finish; Overall: not sure if it’s the style or the beer, but definitely not my favorite.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It’s made from malt, wheat, hops, water, yeast. Candy sugar is added before the bottling takes place. It is a clear, light red colored faro lambic with a small, creamy head.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep amber, cristal clear, tiny white head, which is like you’d expect from sour beer. In aroma it has some lambic sourness, but also there is a lot of sweetness, more even suggary than malty. Smells nice, quite pleasant. In taste it’s very weird. First it’s so sweet, like a sweet soda with addition of even more sugar. But than the sweetness completely disappears, like in one moment. In that moment it feels like quite a decent lambic. But unfortunately the sweetness is still on your lips and on your thong, which makes it sweet again. The mouth feel is ok, but only on the sour phase. In other moments it’s just to sticky, it’s not that refreshing as I was thinking it’ll be. My first faro, weird beer.

UPDATED: APR 22, 2016 Barwa złoto-pomarańczowa z różnymi jesiennymi przebłyskami. Piana bardzo ładna, biała, drobnopęcherzykowa, wolno opadająca, średnia, niski lacing. Mocno nagazowane. W aromacie słodycz i dzikość, pachnie kwaśno, jakby wodą z ogórków kiszonych. W smaku jest słodkie i kwaśne jednocześnie – coś jak soczek wiśniowy (imo) dosładzany. Bardzo pijalne.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aroma of sour fruit, citrus, wood, must. In taste again wood, must, with tartness of old apples and sugary sweetness. Interesting beer that is nicely balanced between sour- and sweetness, though a little bit rough and artificial in sweetness.
