250ml bottle (K Market, Kamppi) BB 2010-11, Drunk 2012-09
Very pleasant sweet aroma, like the ’golden nuggets’ breakfast cereal i had when I was a kid (that probably means there’s some butterscotch). Clear bold rich orange, brief head. Full sweet palate, gentle carbonation. Sweat breakfast-cerealy honey-covered wheat-flake taste. Rather nice. Finish is mostly the sweetness, and to be honest, I shouldn’t give this 4, but it was very nice in the mouth, so I have to. Overall, a remarkably drinkable modern faro, better than some of the more traditional ones I’ve had, to be honest. However, that’s because I think faro is intrinsically a modern sweet thing, not a traditional sour thing. If you want to stick sugars into your old lambics, then do them via the medium of young lambic, and give me a geueze. If, however, you want a luscious sweet drink, then make one of these.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with fading offwhite head. Aroma has fruits like apples, some sweetness and sour bretty character. Taste is sweetish fruity with apple, light malt, brett and some sourness. Finish is dry fruity, with some sweetness.

25cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn, Pours clear amber with a modest off-white head. Farmyard, sour berries and sugar in the aroma. Sweet, funky and sour. Refreshing and quite enjoyable! Can easily have a bottle of this from time to time.

Keg @ Six North Opening Night. Pours amber. Nose is lemon, sweet citrus, candied glace cherry and other fruits. Sweet, big dollop of sweet tea, slightly sour aftertaste, this is odd, caramel, way too sweet for me.

355 ml bottle, undated as far as I can see, from Barriques in Fitchburg, WI, served at cellar temp from a Lindemans glass. Lots of liquid around the cork as it is extracted with a bit of difficulty...pours a dark amber, almost copper, with largish off-white bubbly head that dies very quickly....decent enough farmy nose, sour apples and a bit of manure and wet hay...body very sweet throughout, light underlying tartness, very little carbonation, watery, soft finish. I was excited to finally get to try a second Faro, but alas had to make do with this one; that’s what you get in this lambic-poor area, sigh. Anyway as it warms up, there’s some interesting smokiness towards the finish, and the tartness becomes just a wee bit more prominent, which is nice -- but it’s still almost undrinkably sugary, and simultaneously watery and syrupy. Gaaah.

Pours clear amber with a small white head, decent lacing. Wonderful if a bit sweetish aroma of roses, funk, light note of strawberries and raspberries, caramel/sugar, funk again, hints of spice and grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet-and-sour, with a tiny bit of grapefruit bitterness on finish. Medium carbonation and body, fairly sticky. Amazing aroma makes up for excessive (to my taste) sweetness, and probably a great one for fruity/sweet-and-sour lovers.

Barwa bursztyn/ciemne złoto, klarowne, piana niska.

Carbonatación a tope.
