4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2002: I’m really into sour beers right now, and this one didn’t disappoint. Stinky, sweet grass. A little pineapple, orange, apple, and yeast is mixed in there as well. Flavor is sour, but not over the top. Sour, dry apple cider makes up the base of this. Following that I get cheese, hay, earth, grass, and strawberry. Pour into my Unibroue Blanche De Chambly was incredibily creamy. Head eventially deminished and left a nice layer of lace to remind me of it. Very drinkable, and makes me feel like I’m in Belgium again.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours orangey-golden and hazy with a farily large white head that lingers and lingers. Aroma is sour, musty and sharp - it assaults the nose in a way reminiscent of a brawny champagne. Flavor is dry, dry, dry, sour, bitter and astringent all rolled into one - very complex with flavors that I can’t begin to describe. Medium body and light carbonation. My first lambic gueuze and it’s taking some getting used to. I shall continue acclimating my palate for these brews and will perhaps re-rate later.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2009 Impressive gueuze. It’s not as assertive as Cantillon, but brings a good deal of farmhouse character, intense acidity, length and complexity. It is perhaps less funky than most - like a slightly cleaner version of Girardin. On the sweeter side these days, it is one of the fruitier, more citrusy and refreshing examples of oud gueuze, and one of the more vinous ones as well.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cloudy amber with a nice lacing head. Aroma is sour, with some citrus fruit. Taste is very sour, makes the lips pucker, with some fruit hints like peach and white grapes. Almost dry champagne like but much more sour. A sour beer lovers dream.

Finally a good gueuze! Skank smell is minimal, dominated by sour apple, oak, and charp cheese. Very nice/

750ml bottle. 1997 vintage. Cloudy golden with creamy lacing and a thin head. Amazing aroma of sour and oak with notes of melon/apple and sharp cheese. Very acidic sour cheese and barn yard flavors yet very balanced. Great beer! Thanks Randy.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear straw gold with a large white foamy head. Aroma of pungent cheese, must, cobwebs, and tarty fruit. Flavor dominated by sour apples, very acidic, with not as much funk as the aroma. The finish is very sour and dry, like those Eye-Popper candies I used to get when I was young. I’ve only had a few now, but I really dig Gueuze.

75cL bottle. 1997 vintage. Clear golden color with medium head. Aroma is all over you. Big time sourness, oak, some melon(honeydew). The flavor is very sour with the oak, some acetic, funk, and barnyard. Somehow it goes down pretty smooth with all the aroma & flavor. We tasted this after some 2002 La Folie and the Cuvee was a bit better. This beer is truly incredible!! Awesome beer!! Wow! (Most of you won’t like this so please send us your bottle! hehe) Thanks Randy!!!
