4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 obxdude10 (1831) - Pottstown, USA - JAN 1, 2012
This is my first review of 2012, and my first gueuze. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first beer of a new category, especially one that I don’t know a whole lot about. Besides, it’s been a while since I busted into an unchartered territory for myself. I did read that this style of beer is supposed to put a lot of champagne’s to shame. It certainly looks, acts and tastes like a fine champagne! It pours a straw color with a very minimal white head. There is very little lacing left around my official Lindemans glass. The nose features a pronounced dry, white grape aroma. The body is very carbonated and spritzy, with a wild yeast and barnyard-like mouthfeel. The flavors are very dry and a little tart, with a ton of white grapes. The finish, and ultimately, the aftertaste are really grapey and dry. I’m not sure I could drink more than two bottles of this at a time, but it is delicious, refreshing and very enjoyable!
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 rozsoma (283) - HUNGARY - JUN 2, 2012
Úgy látom nekem még tovább kell érnem, ehhez a sörtípushoz, nem igazán sikerült átélnem a szellemiségét. Maradjunk egyelőre ennyiben.

Pours a murky orange with no head or lacing. The smell is very champagne like. The taste is quite sour up front and finishes dry like a brut champagne would. It seems like it would be perfect for New Years - just not sure about it being a beer. Certainly interesting and unique to my taste buds. Not bad!

Buonissima non ho niente altro da dire, se non che costa pure poco! Con poco più di 5 euro me la sono cavata!
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Benjii (2416) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 28, 2012
On draught at De Cam Volkscafe. Pours a dark golden colour with a thick white head. Aroma of lemon, horse blanket, wet cardboard and light grassy hops. Similar flavours and just a little tart with a dry finish. Moderate carbonation, light CO2 prickle and a foamy mouth-feel.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rondphoto (623) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Cloudy rusty golden color with a light head covering and no lace. The interesting thing here is the history of this style - sour dry white wine comes as close as I can to the flavor - the history of gueuze is quite extensive - see Michael Jackson’s Beer Companion for a good short overview. I suppose I could develop a taste for this as each sip was a little smoother than the one before, but, overall, it is a definite thirst quencher and not very tasty.

Pours cloudy amber with almost no head. Smells of apples and dust. Taste is sour, earthy, Spanish olives and dust. More interesting than tasty
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiong (1306) - Espoo, FINLAND - MAY 20, 2012
Tasted @ Gastropub Tuulensuu geuze blind tasting 2012. #4/15 overall rating
Pours murky orange with a medium foamy head. Aroma of strong earthy notes, cellar and some berries. Taste of strong fruity sourness, sticky tart fruits and dry ripe berries. Finish is dry and very sour with some fruity tartness. Slightly light bodied but still tasty and easy to drink.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 WheatKing (197) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 19, 2012
A fantastic beer, and a fine example of a style which I hope will become more mainstream here in the New World. "Sour yet refreshing" sounds strange, but if you’ve had tamarind juice you know what it means. I’m going to buy more of this next time I see it.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 15/20 shaynsawchuk (33) - Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2012
355 mL bottle. Pours a cloudy cider color, a mammoth head of crinkling foam with lots of lacing. Definitely funky aroma, lots of yeast and wet leaves, apple, pear and lemon. Sour and dry, barely perceptible malt taste with a hint of cereal grain, more lemon and yeast, champagne like notes and apply tartness. Light bodied, lots of bubbles and a dry lemonade like finish. (Real lemonade of course.) Really the only lambic I’ve had, interesting to taste. Decidedly not what most North Americans think of when the word beer is mentioned.
