4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ComradeK (732) - Blue Mountains, - JAN 9, 2013375ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light gold, with a huge white head, which lasts well and leaves decent lacing. Sour, funky, musty notes mix with leather, apple skin and some oak in the aroma. A savoury, leathery flavour up front leads into an intense, refreshing sourness. A touch of oak towards the finish mixes with an almost meaty savoury flavour, with some sour lime coming through at the end. This is an unusual blend of sour and savoury flavours that nonetheless come together quite harmoniously. The sourness gives it a very refreshing feel that is just the ticket on a horribly muggy summer night.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 radagast83 (3104) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAY 18, 2013
3 year old bottle - thanks GT2 (pretty sure this was you). Poured a straw yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some light grassy notes, lots of sweet malts, tartness certainly there. Flavor was sweet malts, lots of sugary notes. Funky notes, highly drinkable but a touch sugary. Will need to check this out fresh.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kalervo (448) - FINLAND - MAY 15, 2013
I’m totally new to lambic beers, but this was quite enjoyable to drink. Fresh and interesting.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 brystmar (455) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Bottled 8/18/2012. Grassy, malty aroma. Mostly boring taste, mild sourness, not much gueuze-y awesomeness. Pouring in dregs helps, but there's still too much malt and not funky enough.
Not bad I guess. Better than the shelf Boon gueuze, yet Cantillon crushes it. At least it isn't sweet like the other Lindemans "lambics" are.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mortlach (715) - Rome, ITALY - MAY 7, 2013
07/05/2013 Bir&Fud Bottega (375ml bottle, best before 2015). Dorata, opalescente, torbida, schiuma bianca abbondante, discretamente persistente.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bierbeek (97) - Beek, NETHERLANDS - MAY 6, 2013
37.5cl bottle, aged approximately 1 test. Yellow colour, big white head, heavy carbonation. Aromas of vinegar, earth, leather and citrus. Taste is delicious, champagne like. Sourness of vinegar, green apple and grapes. Some what tart. Heavy carbonation. Finish is slightly bitter with even some sweetness
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hanoi (74) - - MAY 2, 2013
Nose is vinegar, cheese, vinous. Taste is tart, straw, green apple, slight horseblanket. Mouthfeel is full and carbonated. A good to middling lambic, it had many of the key features, but not pronounced enough
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DeclanT (55) - Tervuren, BELGIUM - APR 30, 2013
Probably the most commonly available oude gueuze on the Belgian market which makes the disappointment of it’s taste and palate all the harder to take. It’s simply not at the standard of the other gueuzes that can be foind with a bit of effort.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 bbcd (85) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 27, 2013
hazy gold, foamy white head. funk, citrus, grape, apple, vinegar, cheese, earth, must. medium sourness, a bit mild for the style, lightly bitter. medium body, slick feel, astringent finish.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheGB (422) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2013
Pours dark yellow with a lasting head. Aroma of malt, banana, grapefruit and cloves. Taste is similar with cloves, earth and cheese. Full bodied with a nice palate. Not as funky as I thought it would be.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Pdubyah (108) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - APR 26, 2013
This is so left field. Far from the madding crowd of "beer" this has it’s own niche that it appears to fills nicely. That it does is consistently seems to indicate it’s not hard or unusual
Cidery yes. Sour yes. Sparkes yes. Musty aroma gives up it’s fruit nature.
A most peculiar diversion off the beaten track of what I though "lambic" beer was, I’m not disappointed I’m more surprised.
I would like it to have had more body and not to have been so thin, but then I’m a newbie to this and this may be the benchmark.
