3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Mr_Vogel (54) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 13, 2013
Bottle. First lambic/geuze ever. Bottle states 5% alcohol instead of the four percent mentioned here. Pours hazy dark golden, bronze even. Little yeast residue. Tiny head that disappears in seconds. Aroma of champagne, unripe red fruits and sour. Taste caught me off guard, but within a minute I got accustomed to the taste and boy it’s good. Hits the palate exactly like champagne. Then, unripe fruits, sourness, dryness and some sweetness comes in. Plenty of carbonation and oily. Very refreshing. Aftertaste is long. Dry and sour. Some sweet and sour remain for a long time and induces excessive saliva build-up. This is a style I’d like to explore.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 McTapps (1487) - Ruhrgebiet, GERMANY - MAY 4, 2013
Milky light yellow colour with low head and medium to thin body. Nose of kimchi. Taste of sour stuff (can’t really name it), light Belgian yeast, raspberry vinegar, lactid acid and unripe berries. It was strange at first but when it got air and tempoerature (and when I got used to it) it got better and better. Enjoyed it a lot in the end. Quite refreshing and quaffable.

Once again Lindemans wins an evening. Starting of with a fruity and fresh nose with some citrus fruits in the aroma you can continue with a milky look of a special beer. Tastes quite sour - the first sip maybe a bit tough. But when you get used to it it scores in the taste and refreshes you immediately. A solid Geuze for sure.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 PriorL (260) - BELGIUM - APR 30, 2013
75cl bottle.
Appearance: amber/blonde beer, small unstable head.
Nose: lots of caramel, some grains. But the sugary aspect is overruling. Very little citrus noticeable.
Taste: lots of sugar, little sourness. Reminds me of a Faro beer more than a geuze, but i’m not really a Faro fan...

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GoufCustom (221) - HONG KONG - MAR 23, 2013
250ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer Intl in Tsuen Wan; Cloudy hazy amber red colour with flaky sediments; Almost no head and residual white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing with active carbonation; Pleasantly tart and woody aroma of red wine, champagne, grapes, and sour fruits; Very strong but pleasant sour taste of white wine, grapes, fresh plum and very light wet cardboard card. Medium to light body, dry and thin palate. Taste profile is dominated by dry and sour white wine with grape and fruity undertone. The presence of light wet cardboard is understandable and tolerable due to wild yeast; Sourness is potent but moderate and quite tasty, typical to Gueuze. Hoppiness is non-existent, as expected. Very dry after taste, quite easy, to mouth despite its strong tartness.
Comments: Like Lindemans’ Faro, my first Gueuze does not disappoint. This is a solid one which delivers in the forms of complex aromas, decent if somewhat simple taste, nice dryness and sourness as if I can sipping a champagne without the bubbles and at a faction of the price. Definitely a good starter for anyone who wants to explore Gueuze. Recommended.
