3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jkwalking05 (1878) - Arlington, Texas, USA - JAN 29, 2009
Gold to copper in color. No head. The smell is a powerful combination of sourness and the grainy feel. Light in body the taste is a mix of fruit sweet and sour, almost not sour enough for the style. Overall a good gueuze.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 gunhaver (1030) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JAN 23, 2009
1999 bottle. Pours clear golden amber color, with a lively frothy white head, and bubbly lacing. Nose is slightly tart, with caramel , oakiness, some cider, dark fruits. Starts off slightly tart, with big green apples, raspberries, caramel, some dry wood, and an acidic vinegar quality that no doubt is a result of 10 years of aging. Body is carbonated well, smooth, and overall I’d say it’s held up well, despite the obvious age to it.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 330ml corked bottle..the cork was a bitch and a half to remove. Ive had about 3 "proper" Gueuze.. cantillion varriations & Hanseens.. I reckon this is a cool take on the style, if a little subdued. Its enjoyable . The sourness is not on mute but is mellowed, with limey, citric acidity & granny smith apples.. some mild ’ horse blanket’ too as they say. Cool.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mikkopen (481) - Oulu, FINLAND - JAN 14, 2009
250 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden yellow-orange colour, thin white head. Sweet aroma of apple, also raspberry and other berries. Sweet and slightly acidic flavour dominated by apple. Medium-bodied, nice lively carbonation.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 grandgenie (259) - gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 12, 2009
Dégusté avec french tickler le 24 mars 2007.
Light caramel color with lots of yeast sediments. Aromas of xeres, madeira, sweet, apples with a hint of caramel and a touch of raspberries and a ginger finish. Flavors are predominantly sweet, good carbonation, INCREDIBLY well balanced and bodies. A hint of caramel, green apples all of that not to acid. This should not wear the geuze label since its to sweet, yet it is still VERY good.
2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 502Flavors (1001) - Arlington/DC, Virginia, USA - DEC 31, 2008
Great looking dark gold with a creamy lacing head. Aroma is of a solid traditional gueuze. Unfortunately, the beauty ends here. The flavor is way off. Though the traditional geuze flavor is there, it is totally overpowered by a nauseating sweetness. The beer completely lacks the dryness of a traditional lambic. The sweetness was to much to even note the palate. Overall: pay the extra and get the Rene.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 VitaminR (540) - Colorado, USA - DEC 30, 2008
Slight honey sour nose. Poured amber color with medium head, slight haze. Was a bit candy sweet, some notes of sourness, but not nearly enough. Medium carbonation with a full body, finish was sugary. Not horrible, certainly not what I was expecting. Might be an OK started for someone to try the style, but the Cuvee Rene is far superior and a clear choice over this one.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Quack-Duck (5601) - Down South, GERMANY - DEC 20, 2008
bottle, Auchan Illkirch-Graffenstaden. Hazy deep golden yellow, nearly amber, small fluffy head. Sweet-sour and fruity nose. Sweet and sour flavour dominate, not as sour as other Gueuzes, not as sweet as some other commercial ones. Well-balanced, pleasantly fruity. A really thirst-quenching and refreshing beer.
