3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheJester (1230) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 5, 2007
12 oz, 5% bottle at St. Veronus. (I asked for a Mort Subite Gueuze - the server recommended this instead. Good call???) Clear orange-amber in colour with very little head. Aroma of under-ripe green apples and something sweet (icing sugar??). The taste is tart, of course, but there is a sweetness that shows up about halfway through and doesn’t go away until the end. Tart finish. Medium to full body. Not bad, but probably not one I’ll revisit.

Copper/amber white frothy head fades to film. Aroma full of cork, funky farmhouse, sugary sweetness. Flavor is sugar and not much else. Mouthfeel tad sticky/oily from lack of carbonation. Average at best.

Mostly without head and a carbonated brown body . Sort of bitter aroma along with some flowery aspects. Tastes a lot like a cider with a kind of dry taste at the end. ’Tis a little on the sweet side. Has light champagne texture.

Aside from Lindeman’s Cuvee Renee, they really make soda like lambic drinks and this, unfortunately, is no different. The aroma on it had some promise. Light sour/tartacidic notes started it off nicely but it began and ended on those notes. It was barely even there. Perhaps those who haven’t had "traditional" lambics might find this aroma intriguing, but I found it to be a let down. Appearance was a golden honey yellow, small champagne like bubbles with a minimal frothy head. Mouthfeel was missing that mouth stripping feel that I’ve come to love with top notch gueuze’s like Girardin and 3F. Little to no action on the palate left me wondering what the hell happened, but I remembered it was a Lindeman’s product. So what came next was no suprise...sweetness!! A sweet gueuze....what a f’n shame. And to top it off, it was a saccharine-like sweetness. Give me the dry as a bone, mouth puckering, nut-shot, punch in the mouth sourness instead of this mess. If you really want to try a good product from Lindemans, there’s really only one worth a damn and that’s the aforementioned Cuvee Renee. The rest of this stuff is just crap.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 In a Bios sniffer. Strong alky ale aroma. Metallic olfactory. Beautiful viscous brown orange clear appearance. The smell is no indicator of taste. Odd old mold citrus mild bitter bite on the upper back of the throat. Tingly fruit champagne palate. Farmyard lemon llime wet hay flavors. Finish is unique and appreciated. Dee Lish.
