4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DSG (3017) - Tel Aviv, - SEP 20, 2009
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2011 Re-rate 7/3/11: Bottle sample at the 1st Israeli Sour Tasting. Thanks Amir. Deep red with a pinkish head. Very funky aroma with manure, cherries, barnyard and light medicinal notes. Very sour funky flavor with a bit of cherries and an astringent bone-dry finish. Medium-bodied. A great straight-forward Kriek. 8/4/8/4/16=4
[9/5/09] Bottle at Kulminator in Antwerp after LCRBM. It was an old bottle, but I forgot to write down the vintage. Dark red-ruby color with a white head. Acidic aroma of sour cherries and some vinegar. Sour flavor with cherries, some slightly sugary sweetness in the back and some astringency in the finish. Medium-bodied. 8/4/8/4/16=4
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Benjii (2416) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 28, 2012
75cl bottle from a supermarket in Gooik. A bargain at around €4. Pours a beautiful ruby colour with a thick red head. A sharp aroma of cherries, lemon and almonds. Similar flavours and fairly tart with moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lowenbrau (382) - SPAIN - MAY 13, 2012
750ml bottle. Much more acid than the regular kriek. Tasty. Pours bright red, with reddish thin head, quickly disipating. Some lacing. Light body and average carbonation. Taste is sour, some cherries sweet. Nice dry finish. Quite enjoyable.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Minderbinder (173) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 7, 2012
Bottle 750ml.
Pours hazy red, with pink head. Aroma is of funk, sourness, cherries. Taste is very acid, cherries, some sweetness. I recommand sharing the bottle. Very good, not very easily drinkable due to acidity.
2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 25, 2012
Drank Jan 2010: Green cork and caged 0.75 litre 2007 bottle.
The colour was a true Victoria Plum purple, the beer produced a purple/grey collar too.
The aromas given off were plentiful, cherries, sweet cherries, Bakewell Tarts and mens groins!
The taste was of sour, oh so sour old cherries, it was vinergarous and difficult to drink in more than a small sip at a time.
By the end of the tasting I had a pain behind my ears, the sort you get from trying to blow up ballons. That can’t be right can it? This was one of the most acidic drinks I’ve ever had. I have tried to score according to style (with a personal slant on it)
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kermis (998) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 19, 2012
Rated offline at Antwerp beer festival. Ruby pour with a lively pink head. Funky red berry aroma. Tart cherry and citrus flavour.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 teorn88 (749) - Rimini, ITALY - APR 12, 2012
75cl bottle. 2008 vintage. Pours a deep ruby bloody color with a small light pink head. Aroma is musty and funky up front, with liads of sourness. Cherries and red berries as well. Taste is fabulous: sour, funk, acidic notes, wood, cherries, dust. Great. Light in body and well carbonated. Overall, really delicious and highly drinkable. Just the perfect amount of sourness and fruit touch. Awsome.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 boFNjackson (2936) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 2, 2012
Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured deep red, like medicine with an off-pinkish/reddish gray head. This was a real treat. Luscious, cherry skins and sweetness. Much like grenadine. Some tartness, acidity and acidity with a hint of yeast funk. Dried out towards the finish with more cherry flavors coming into play.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 mcberko (2476) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 13, 2012
750mL bottle, pours an opaque pinkish amber with a small beige head. Aroma of sour fruits, cherries and worcestershire sauce and some funk. Flavour of sour fruits, cherries and worcestershire sauce, the latter of which becomes more and more pronounced the more you drink. Not the best lambic out there, but not overly offensive.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 wlajwl (1809) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Strong tartness and slightly musty in aroma. The flavor is complex tartness, a mix of grapefruit, citrus and a mild sweetness. Although slightly one-dimensional in aroma, the flavor made up for it.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 turbothy (967) - Bonn, GERMANY - MAR 8, 2012
Sampled @ 5de Brugs Bierfestival, Brugge. Ruby with pink head. Sour cherry aroma with hints of champagne. Sparkly cherry flavour with a nicely balanced tartness. I’ll have a crate of this, thanks!
