Bottle from ’06, courtesy Nate. Pours mildly fizzy red, dissipating nose of horse band aid, cherry, vinegar, lemon. Tastes of sour lemon, cherry, super tart with some reasonably funky notes. My tongue hurts.

Launched in 2007, it was about time that Lindemans, famed for its sweetened kriek, came up with a fully authentic ’oude’ version of it. Pale pinkish head, deep ruby red colour; very fruity aroma combining fresh sour cherries with ’malse’ lambic, hay, sherry, lemon zest, not too sulphuric; taste also quite soft for the style, evidently sour but not agressively so, bit sherryish, refreshing with sufficient fresh fruit, subduedly funky. A good stepping stone for those brave enough to venture into the world of oude kriek.

Veel te zuur voor mij, echt niet mijn stijl van kriek. maar sommige zullen dit misschien goed vinden

Big, dense, pink head, which vanishes very fast. Has a dark, ruby red, vinous cherry color. Brett defined barnyard aromas, full of fruit flavor, with an earthy oak wrapping. Cherry aroma melts together with funky tartness in the nose, promising a fantastic, complex dryness. Tastes of musty, leathery malts with ripe, sweet cherries in the beginning, unfolding an incredible depth of fruitiness on the palate, as also the cherry-stones seem to add to the taste, contributing hints of almond and additional breadiness. Acidity then becomes recognizable, at first turning the cherries jounger, more sour, then adding a chewy, dry sourness, which still leaves a spot for the soft oakie cherries on the palate. Includes a very convincing complexity, both, fruits and funky sourness are intense, they pair together perfectly, resulting in a dry, enjoyable melange. This also applies for the aftertaste, although the tartness is growing, the longer it lingers on the palate. Nonetheless I found it astonishing to be able to detect cherries at that stage. Overall this is very fruity, without forgetting to add a huge amount of tart sourness to the beer, which tastes very fullfilling, as it exceeded my expectations of a well done Kriek.

From notes. Enjoyed at the Ashley’s Rare & Vintage Beer TasteFest on June 07. The pour is a great deep ruby, with a wonderfully light pink head that fades down moderately quickly. The lace doesn’t really exist. The aroma is big, sour and cherry. I love it. There is a little woodiness, and the lambic is definitely popping through. The flavor is much more sour (not a bad thing) and achieves a great balance with the fruitiness. The mouth feel is thin, but the carbonation makes it feel much thicker. The aftertaste is tart, sour cherry, and I am a big fan
