This is a special release from Lindemans. These are bottles which were intended to become Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René, but they lacked to start a second fermentation. The contents is a 2 years old lambik (1994) blended with a 1 year old lambik (1995). It is a 1996 vintage and was released from the brewery in 2006.

Most of the bottles were exported to Sweden (Systembolaget) and sold as "Lindemans Oude Lambik". Some of them stayed in Belgium. This beer can therefore also be tasted at Heeren van Liedekercke. It is named "Lindemans Loeierik" over there.

Because of the blend this is not the same as "Lindemans Oude Lambik".

If you had a draught version, then you should definitely add a rating for "Lindemans Oude Lambik".

This was a great surprise pour at Woodshop. Hazy apricot colored pour. Aroma has lots of tropical fruit, mango, melon, dry yeasty notes. Lots of tart stone fruit in the flavor, sour, fruity, wonderful!

Bottle @ De Heeren van Liedekercke. Blonde. Honey, dust, apple and mango in the aroma. Remains of oak. Sweetish flavor with some lemny sourness and oak. Granny Smith apples. Has thinned over the years. Pleasant sour aftertaste with pineapple and mango.

Bottle shared by Edo at the Heeren van Liedekercke. Clear golden color, no head. Aroma of barnyard, hay, some residual sweetness. Relatively sweet for a lambik (ofcourse, it’s a Loerik), yet again good lambik qualities of barnyard. I don’t prefer the sweet tooth in a lambik, but it suits the beer fine.

750mL shared at Woodshop 7 thanks to anders37. Huge whale thanks for this gem. Thank you Anders! Pours a deep, full haze orange. Minimal foam. Nose is sugary melon, cantaloupe, durian, jackfruit. Taste is very light and super clean like Girardin Fond Geuze Bierpallitiers. Heavy nectarine skin, tannic fruit skin balance peach and apricot sugars. Finish is mega zippy, lactic, and tartaric. Very quenching, refreshing. Delicious. Delicate rather than aggressive. Loved it.

Bottled at Woodshop 7, from Anders. Very interesting fruity nose, with pineapple, peach and almost tropical fruits. Very funky flavor, not so sour, with very nice fruits again approaching tropicality. Very nice, and quite unique fruit flavors for a lambic.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2012 2000 vintage 750ml bottle shared with shadesofgray and bucketboy + friends at Capones... thanks to Wim for the bottle - June 2, 2012

A: Murky orange body, no head, just a few stray bubbles around the edges. A few stray streaks of film left after each sip.

S: Delicate, aged lambic profile: must, oak, wet hay, cheese, and sweat. Didn’t really have any citric character. More of an unblended lambic than a geuze.

T: Like the nose, a deep funky character with all of the expected funky notes of a decade+ old lambic. The dominant note is a wet, musty woodiness. Rounded out by a touch apple fruitiness and trace of enjoyable oxidation (traces of cardboard like notes)

M: Medium to thin bodied, nearly still as this didn’t really pick up any carbonation. Gentle acidity, with a delicate sourness and just the slightest bit of puckering tartness.

O: Old lambic/geuze is one of my favorite things, the musty/funkiness is so much more complex than a fresher lambic, this was no exception. If this had a bit nore citric and spicy notes to it, it would have been that much better.

Bottled, at tasting at _angst_. Hazy pale amber, small head. Distinct acetic sloeberry and cobweb aroma. Some sweetness, concentrated vinegary acidity. Medium bodied and very soft with low carbonation. Intensely flavourful with sweat and old raspberries, cobwebs and vinegar. Light salty finish.

Pour is a golden apple juice color with a creamy off white head. The nose has a faint dusty brett note, some apple juice like aromas and sweet apricot with a bit of syrup in the nose. The taste has dusty cob webb, light cellar musk, very juicy and a bit syrupy and sticky. Apricot, peach, rather sour in the finish. Fruits are tight and bright, light body, soft on the tongue, gentle carbonation, semi dry and puckering sourness.

750 ml bottle courtesy of omhper. Shared at epic tasting on February 11. Pours golden with a fluffy white head that doesn’t leave any trace worth mentioning on the glass. Smell is sour and funky with lots of hay, raspberries, citrus, sweet apples, farmyard and leather. Taste is very sour with tons of raspberries, hay, grass, green apples, lemon juice and clear farmyard notes. Mouthfeel is intense and tart. Finish is tart with fresh raspberries. If this is Cuvée René that failed to undergo a second fermentation I wonder where all the raspberries came from. Intriguing and very very good.
