12 ounce sample on tap at øl in Walnut Creek. The aroma is very roasty with some burnt cocoa hints present. Scant coffee. Nice enough aroma. Mostly opaque dark brown body with a foamy tan head. Leaves good lacing behind. An attractive beer. Starts with some promising roastiness, which is lightly burnt. The middle thins out big time. I get some huskiness and tannins late. Thin body, which is lacking. Unfortunately, this is pretty one-dimensional and fairly lifeless.

Draught at Beer Revolution. Linden sure doesn’t make it very far from the brewery. I was tempted to walk down there and ask them why their beer is so hard to find. Anyway, this one was a deep dark brown color with a light beige head that left a moderate amount of lace. The aroma had a smooth lager yeast quality with some creamy mocha and toasted grain. Clean overall, with a nice fresh malty quality. The flavor was a touch smokey and roasted with some dark bread crust. Lightly sweet through the finish with lasting chocolate. Acidic in the finish as well, showing off those dark grains. Not too heavy on the roast, but on the stronger side of the style. I’d get another, but this is no death and taxes.

Tasted at the 4th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/14/2009. This American Dark Lager pours a medium black color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is chocolate and sweet, with a touch of roasty malt. A light to medium bodied American Dark Lager. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice dark lager. I never expect much complexity in these beers, but do want a slightly roasty malt flavor and easy drinkablity. This one holds up to that standard. A very nice beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
