Handbottle 25 cl. Pours a cloudy nutty brown with a small off-white head. Roast, nuts and heavy alcohols - almost fusely - aroma. Solid body, lots of roast, caramel ending up in a massively bitter finish with loads of booze. This gets rough - almost to the point of a crude Malt Liquor. 250311

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2011 2011-03-25, handbottle from the brauhaus, 7-4-6-3-14=34
Cloudy dark amber to brown color, with red shades; small head. The aroma is pungent, alcohol in the front, then some timid biscuity malt. Good body strength; strong caramel flavor, moderate residual sweetness, a good nutty touch with light biscuity notes; the alcohol is too evident; the bitterness is quite strong. Good but rough.

2011-03-22, draught at the brauhaus
Hazy red-amber color, beautiful; medium sized head. Initially the aroma shows some nice fruit touch, then caramel; mild. As usual in Germany, this beer is served too cold, at Pils temperature; strong dark caramel flavor; the body is lean, the residual sweetness is minimal; the carbonation is high, which doesn’t help; there is a nutty character, the bitterness is high, and the alcohol perception in the final is just a tad too evident.
Compared to other Doppelbocks available nearby at the same time (Vogel and Andreasbräu), in this one the fermentation has been pushed further, not only generating more alcohol, but also lowering the sweetness, trimming the body, and introducing light aroma and flavor of vegetables. Good, but a bit over the top.
