3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 30, 2011
My Bottom Line :
Chewy and bready, this unfiltered Pilsener’s malt and yeast union is a great pillow upon which citrusy, herbal hops can relax and converse.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam laces atop the cloudy blond.
-This is yet another rustic unfiltered lager which shares many traits with Czech brewpub-brewed Svetlé Lezaks.
-A herbal, spicy hop bitterness seals each sip.
-The flavor profile is balanced and drinkability is optimal.
-This might be plump than your typical German Pilsener, and thus might appear more nourishing, but it does everything so well than I can’t complain.
On tap at the brewpub. Thanks Alex!

UPDATED: APR 27, 2012 2011-10-03, draught at the brauhaus, 8-4-7-4-15=38 Quality check after the summer... The appearance is cloudy, as usual. The first impression of the aroma is lovely, with aromatic hops, very grassy, deep; it turns later into something more breadish. The mouthfeel is very dry, smooth as well, as it has high carbonation; malt flavor, with light bready and crispy notes. The bitterness in the final is a tad too much. Not the best batch, but a very god one anyway.
2011-06-07, draught at the brauhaus, 8-4-7-4-15=38 The hop aroma is fresh, very pleasant. In the flavor, the malt is a bit missing, and the bitterness is on the harsh edge.
2011-03-22, draught at the brauhaus, 9-4-9-5-18=45 Cloudy blond color, with pale orange shades; creamy head. The aroma is confirmed: some of the nicest hops in the Helles of the region, with mild crispy malts, light breadish touch, and a grassy and earthy touch; possibly, even sweet. Lovely crispy malt flavor, and explosive, aromatic, noble hops, to create a dry mouthfeel, clean, bitter, floral... Heavenly tonight. Only the Tipopils has been so inspiring before.
2010-12-13, draught at the brauhaus, 8-4-7-5-15=39 They seem to brew a batch of 1000L every week; tonight it’s the end of the tank. Hazy deep blond color; compact and generous head. Nice aroma, hop, crispy malts, a bit biscuity. Smooth, highly carbonated mouthfeel; cereals and malt flavor, with a prepotent bitterness, maybe too much in the end, and green, oily, rough hopping. Aggressive and very good.
2010-11-08, draught at the brauhaus, 8-4-8-5-16=41 I had this one a few times now, and it’s usually the best Pilsner/Helles from Frankfurt to the Schwarzwald. It has a wonderful, grassy, herbaceous hop aroma, and the flavor is a good follow up, with some malt crispness, grassy and noble hopping, strong bitterness. Not as elegant as Tipopils, maybe a bit brutal, but surely fully enjoyable.
2010-07-28, draught at the brauhaus, 7-4-8-5-16=40 Cloudy blond color. The hop aroma is fresh, very nice, with a hint of fresh bread. Good malt flavor, with some biscuity and crispy touch; actually it’s overwhelmed by the strong bitterness; the hop is initially lovely; maybe in the end the power of the bitterness takes over a bit on the aromatic qualities; a lot of hop oils. Excellent!
