COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A super dark ale revived from 18th century English variations. Our version offers rich, malty, chocolate, caramel, and sharp currant flavors obtained from imported specialty malts. Balanced by four additions of domestic hops, this beer is exactly Porter!

A dark ruby brown with an aspiring lacy head--nice looking. Aroma is yeasty, burnt, black patent malt, soy sauce, and a sort of whiskey sour smell. Flavor is very bitter and astringent but dry and very stark. I didn't get much hop flavor, but what I did get was grapefruit/flower petals.

Cask-conditioned, hand pulled: They added extra hops to this one when they cask conditioned it. Creamy, body and head. Head stuck around for the whole pint. The coffee and chocolate were present but subdued. Also, acidic. A lot more hoppy than most porters. Fair amount of carbonation. I need to try the regular version of this porter for comparison.

Draught. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), moderately hoppy (grapefruit). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately astringent. Too citric-hoppy/acidic for my liking.

Very nice and dark, deep-red hue with a frothy head. Aroma was nice: coffee, roasted and sweet. Very atypical porter though, stylistically speaking. Hops were very sweet and grapefruity, and they masked the malts, if you can believe it. Me being a hophead, I was torn. I loved the grapefruit/citric flavors, but not necessarily in a porter.

Best aroma in the brewpub and a fine roastiness, but this is balanced by a sour grassiness that doesn’t endear me to it. The thing gets more roasty-sweet and less sour as you go.

Not a typical porter. Very Hoppy/Stemmy. Tastes quite fresh and strong, Almost like over stepped tea, although it works for this beer. I really enjoyed it.
