matt7215 (484), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2008 on tap at the brewpub. served amber with a little tan head. at first there were no aromas from this one. some breadiness came through after some warming. a little dark sweetness in the flavour. thin with some good lager malt meets roasted brown caramel flavour. not my fav of the night but not a bad pint for #3. JesseM (330), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 16, 2008 On tap at the brew pub. Decent ruby brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is of wort and barley, mild roast and caramel. Not really your typical brown ale. Flavour is very similar to every other beer at this brew pub, it has that bready/worty house character that they all share (including the Gold Crown beers brewed on premise), which is quite a tasty and nice smelling character, it’s just weird that all their beers seem so very similar. Not a bad beer by any stretch, but it seemed more like a Dunkel or an American Dark Lager than anything else, although I guess using ale yeast makes it roughly a brown ale. I’d order another glass of this again, it is pretty tasty. MrManning (1403), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 11, 2008 Draught at the hotel- Pours a ruby/brownish body.Head is just off white and sticks around a while. Brown bread, rye, some smoke in the nose, with roasted malts appearing as it warms. Semi sweet nutty flavour profile is backed with some soft hops bitterness, caramel malts, bread, and a bit of a spice. A touch thin on the finish, but that is a minor complaint. Good. mabel (1246), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 9, 2007 [359-20070623] Tap @ Lion Restaurant (Waterloo, ON). Lightly smoked yeast aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a long-lasting creamy white head and some lacing. Flavour continues lightly smoked yeast with light generic vegetables. Medium body. Drinkably smooth for a brown ale but has more interesting brothers. jerc (3039), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2004 Watery as heck, and odd bitterness and balance to it. Not bad per se but a bit off kilter, it feels like an awkward first dance at prom. Not unpleasant but a bit hard to wrap your head around.
